Commenting on the story: Pandemic delays $400m Central Market Arcade redevelopment

The sad thing about this ‘development’ is that many established businesses moved out of the arcade precinct and either moved their business elsewhere or just closed down when the original plans were announced.

I wonder if and when this development will happen, and it’s been at the cost of small businesses closing. It’s all very grandiose to boast of the “big name” businesses that are keen to be part of this re-imagining of the Central Market district, but it’s a kick in the guts to the little people who made and in some cases still make up the unique character of this precinct.

So many interstate friends are envious of our old school central market area. Whilst the arcade is admittedly tired and shabby, the proposed development is so out of touch of the unique charm of our Central Market precinct. – Mark Roberts

Commenting on unappreciative Fumbles readers in Your views:

Keep up the good work, Tom! A Touch of the Fumbles is by far the funniest bit of writing and I look forward to my weekly dose during the footy season.

Anyone who takes these articles seriously needs to lighten up a tad. If you don’t enjoy Tom’s writing (how could you not?) just move on to the next article, folks. – Maria Russo
