Commenting on the story: SA puts NSW border opening on hold as pub cases rise

Well done, SA authorities. No matter what the cost financially to the state in the immediate term, the risk of suffering the Covid-19 infection rates that are occurring in Victoria and appear to be about to occur in NSW is just too great.

We are so fortunate to live in SA. Our degree of comfort is in no small way attributed to the courage and foresight shown by our health decision makers and leaders that has resulted in SA becoming an island of refuge and sanctuary. – Paul McCormack

South Australia’s shopping regulations are archaic. It’s disappointing that the government has decided to revert back to pre-Covid opening hours.

Our state is too heavily unionised. Deregulated shopping hours are needed in order to boost the economy and provide more job opportunities to people.

Right now we are experiencing very high unemployment because of Covid. Increasing shop opening hours would surely decrease unemployment as those who have lost their jobs would have the opportunity to take up additional retail job opportunities. – Danielle Bailey

Commenting on the story: Inside the Crows’ downfall: “The system didn’t get us … we made mistakes”

It is interesting to note as an outsider to Adelaide Football Club that excuses are commonly made by the club and accepted by their fans, almost always without any dissent or disagreement.

That means they are never really challenged from their own supporters, who accept failures without comment.

Down the road at Port Adelaide, the supporters are far more vocal in their criticism of the club if the supporters believe things are not as they should be.

A recent case in point was the dual captain issue. This decision was reversed by the club after one year, mainly due to the criticism of the concept by the supporter base. John Batten

Commenting on the story: Councils considering GM crops opt-out after SA ban lifted

Like many serious decisions our politicians make on our behalf, this decision has very significant long term implications yet has been made with a short term focus.

It’s a symptomatically disappointing result of a fundamentally flawed electoral system.

Significant carrots dangle in front of corporate agribusiness leaders. Major risks are touted by anti GM pundits. One thing is for sure: there is no going back once the floodgates open.

GM patent holders are quick to sell the benefits in such a nice and altruistic way, yet their fundamental motivations are far from it.

Be warned farmers of South Australia. Your outputs stand a chance of increasing in a good year, but your inputs and risks will always be higher. Paul Bogner

Commenting on the opinion piece: Feral cat control critical to KI dunnart survival

When I was a child in the 70s there was still a bounty on dingos and eagles – a very bad idea because it was effective.

Would a bounty on cats on KI be a good idea? Say, $1 per scalp?

A bounty would encourage methods that are selective for cats, unlike baiting.

It could also encourage sports shooting clubs to go to KI? – David Everett

Commenting on the story: Pandemic reveals “significant” challenges to housing homeless

Addressing homelessness requires new thinking new ways. Engage with the people about what it is that they want.

Putting the existing homeless into motels was a crazy idea – no cooking facilities, no fresh air, no opening windows. Locked into a room is not the way that they are used to living.

Also they are social people not just sitting in a room alone with no family no friends.

Emergency accommodation with kitchen facilities and a place to gather is a start. – Plony Verkerk
