Raising funds to support St John SA in saving the lives within our communities

Buying a ticket in the St John Christmas Home & Lifestyle Lottery has a long-lasting impact on the wellbeing of all South Australians.

St John SA can be called upon at times of state emergency or in natural disasters to help emergency services provide patient care at incidents, assist with non-urgent patient transport and work with SA Ambulance to reduce overflow.

St John SA CEO Mark Groote says proceeds from the lottery help train and equip volunteers to give their time on a day-to-day basis, as well as at major public events, where they respond to strains, sprains, anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest.

“It costs more than $3 million dollars to have our systems ready to effectively service,” says Groote.

“So, all of the money that comes through allows us to do all of this.”

But this year’s support goes beyond the 20,000 patients treated by St John SA volunteers each year.

Proceeds will also go towards the continued support of COVID-19 screening activities and crew deployment, as well as the continuation of St John SA’s community programs.

The St John SA Community Care Program provides support and companionship to the elderly and those at risk of social isolation in the community, while the Youth Development Program aims to help develop first aid and transferrable life skills for children between the ages of 11 to 17.

Given the drastic statistics that only 1 in 10 people survive sudden cardiac arrest, it is also important that St John SA continue to partner with organisations to provide regional access to defibrillators and education sessions in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Lottery proceeds are the reason that their eye-catching on-the-go CPR Lab, equipped with ultramodern Bluetooth manikins, tours the state to teach members of the public vital first aid skills.

Access to such products and training can increase a South Australian’s chance of cardiac survival up to 70 per cent by ensuring they are defibrillated within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest.

Of course, buying a St John Christmas Home & Lifestyle Lottery ticket will also give South Australians a chance to win a share of $10 million worth of prizes in the state’s biggest home lottery ever staged.

Over the course of 12 weeks, ticket holders can win more than 30,000 different prizes, including 9 homes, an array of motor and water vehicles, 50 luxurious South Australian holidays and eventually the $4 million Grand Prize Package.

South Australia’s biggest home lottery really is a win-win situation.
