New Supreme Court judge

A former District Court judge with a “remarkable career” has been appointed to the Supreme Court.

Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said Judge Sophie David’s legal background “is exemplary”, having worked with the Legal Services Commission, as a Prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, as Counsel Assisting the Coroner, and as prosecuting Counsel in Commonwealth matters, including fraud and drug importation trials.

“Prior to her appointment as a Judge of the District Court in 2015, Judge David acted as Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse, which included involvement in numerous public hearings and the drafting of Commission reports,” Chapman said.

Judge David begins her new role in the General Division of the Supreme Court today.
