Tickets for the Unbound HomeStart SA Fashion Showcase are on sale for the graduate fashion parade, which will be held in the grounds of the Old Royal Adelaide Hospital on North Tce at dusk on Thursday 8 February 2018.

The models will cascade down around the grand wrought iron balconies of the historic Margaret Graham Building (on the Frome Street side) and weave through the trees and the audience.

TAFE SA Fashion Design and Technology principal lecturer Helen Jansson says she is excited to present the impressive work of the latest graduates.

“The innovative designs that you will see on the night have been inspired by experiences such as overseas study trips to China, Hong Kong, Italy and England and an industry mentor program,” Jansson says.

Fashion graduate Brian Yambao, who will showcase six outfits under his design label Maelstrom, says the graduate fashion parade is the culmination of three years of “learning, hard work and fun”.

“It also marks the beginning of our careers in the fashion industry as we look to the future with hopeful eyes, armed with newly developed skills and brimming with inspiration,” he says.

“Unbound encapsulates the idea that our creativity is boundless and that we are not constrained by a singular theme or aesthetic.

“Our individual collections are a unique expression and manifestation of our skills, creativity and talent.”

Adelaide Fashion Festival event manager Robyn Ingerson, who has worked closely with the students over the past three years, says she can see the direct result of the training and how the lecturers equip students for industry.

“I have been particularly impressed with their attention to detail and their professionalism with their original sketch presentations as well as their pattern making and the quality of the finished samples,” she says.

“The energy and enthusiasm from the students has been generated by the creative environment, mentors and opportunities that are presented to them.

“It is a very important space to allow our industry to keep growing and shining.”

Other fashion graduates to showcase their garments are Anastassia Minoyiannis, Casey Smith, Sarah Anderson, Ebony Saunders, Diandra Brown, Natahlia Covino, Katherine Kostas, Haidee Crawford, Frankie Maree Mackay, Emily Clark, Chelsea Bain, Lianna Hollis, Woolee Bae, Elena Asikas, Jacobina Condon, Jacqueline Pirgousis, Mavi Mahoney, Eliza Coventry, Chelsea Edwards, Molly Price and Jessica Scudds, Isabella Thredgold, Paoweena Klakhaeng, Ashleigh Boyce, Jordan Mackenzie and Penny Lim.

HomeStart Finance chief executive John Oliver says HomeStart is pleased to continue its partnership with the graduate fashion parade to “encourage creativity and innovation in fashion and design”.

“HomeStart is passionate about giving back to the South Australian community and we provide $1,000 for the Fashion Student of the Year,” Oliver says.

“It is a privilege to be part of the journey for aspiring South Australian fashion students and we look forward to the inspiring designs which will be on display by some of South Australia’s brightest new fashion industry stars.”
