Hundreds sign up to support local independent journalism

InDaily’s reader funding program has attracted hundreds of pledges in the first two weeks.

This local initiative follows a global trend for publishers to ask those who use the product, their readers, to help fund their journalism while advertising dollars, traditionally used to fund media, are migrating to Google and Facebook.

The response from InDaily readers has been instant and significant. Almost 300 readers have either pledged a one-off donation or ongoing monthly financial contributions.

These readers want to help fund different, local and informed media about what is happening in Adelaide and South Australia.

Already these funds have been earmarked to commission stories and training for journalists. If the rate of donations continues, InDaily will be able to employ another journalist in its newsroom by the end of the year.

InDaily was established as a newspaper in 2004, called The Independent Weekly, to create a new media voice in South Australia.

In 2010, The Independent Weekly moved online to become InDaily. Its audience has grown to over 200,000 monthly readers since the move.

InDaily is run by a small and dedicated team of South Australian journalists playing an important role to inform South Australians.
