SA Health has sent a statement to staff confirming that Don Frater – a former executive director of the Department of Premier and Cabinet – will take over the role, beginning late June.

Current Health deputy CE for finance and corporate services Steve Archer will stay on, over a transitional period, before taking long service leave late in August and moving to retirement.

SA Health chief executive David Swan said in the statement that Frater would “bring a strong strategic and economic focus to the position, which he has developed during his time in senior roles in both state and federal governments, as well as professional service firm KPMG”.

“These roles have included Executive Director, State Development, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, where Don was responsible for developing strategy on key issues such as the Murray River, housing stimulus and infrastructure, and Executive Director of Prosperity and Sustainability at DPC.”

Swan thanked Archer “for his support, his expertise and the leadership capabilities that he’s displayed during his time with SA Health”.

“Steve has made a significant, lasting contribution to the department and I wish him well for the future,” he said.

“I look forward to working with Steve and Don to ensure a smooth transition during this pivotal period for SA Health, and I’m sure you will join me in welcoming Don in the coming weeks.”
