Minister for Small and Family Business Andrea Michaels is today launching the Office for Small and Family Business (OSFB) within the Department for Industry, Innovation and Science.

The new office will be a “front door” for businesses seeking government services, support and advice, Michaels said, alongside the ongoing role of the state’s Small Business Commissioner.

The OSFB’s first piece of work will be drafting a new small business strategy for South Australia – the first undertaking of its kind in more than a decade, according to the state government.

The strategy will guide government policies and programs that affect the small and family business sector and will be informed by more than a dozen industry and regional roundtables set to take place over the next two months.

The state government says the strategy will be released in early 2023.

“I encourage small business owners across the state to embrace this opportunity to have your voice heard, and ensure you receive the right support from Government to help you succeed,” Michaels said in a statement.

“All of this will be achieved in close collaboration with industry associations, chambers of commerce and other key stakeholders.”

Business SA chair Nikki Govan said the new OSFB will be “critical in ensuring relevant information and support can be easily accessed by business owners”.

“Such comprehensive engagement will give business owners across the State the opportunity to be heard and help shape the Small Business Strategy,” she said in a statement.
