Dick Smith rises again as online-only business

Dick Smith has been relaunched as an online retailer by its new owner, a day after the electrical retailer’s last bricks-and-mortar stores closed.

Kogan.com says it had launched new Dick Smith sites in Australia and New Zealand a month ahead of schedule.

The new sites retain the familiar yellow and black branding of the old Dick Smith, although the face of its founder is no longer on show above the company name.

Entrepreneur Ruslan Kogan picked up the Dick Smith online brand after the 48-year-old business hit the rails in January with debts of about $400 million, eventually forcing it to close.

Kogan.com and Dick Smith executive director David Shafer said all orders from today would be fully backed by Kogan.

“Dick Smith’s recent history has been disappointing for many Australians, but for millions of us, it is an iconic brand we all know and love,” Shafer said. “We will work hard to restore the faith Australians have put in the Dick Smith brand for almost 50 years.”
