Turnbull stepped down from her position in October after husband Malcolm won the Liberal leadership from Tony Abbott, becoming Australia’s 29th Prime Minister.

Staines will take up her position as a non-executive director on February 15.

Staines is a former CEO of Australian Airlines and sits on the boards of QIC, Goodstart Early Learning, NSW Transport Advisory Board and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation.

She has previously been a director with Aurizon Holdings, Australian Rail Track Corporation, Gladstone Ports Corporation, North Queensland Airports, Allconnex Water, Early Learning Services and Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

SeaLink Travel Group chairman Andrew McEvoy said Staines’ experience would be invaluable as it expanded its tourism and transport interests.

“Andrea is highly regarded for her professionalism, transport experience and her extensive knowledge of Queensland where our business operations have grown substantially over the past 12 months with the acquisition of the SeaLink Gladstone and SeaLink South East Queensland businesses,” he said.
