As many as 75 power outages affecting 33,118 households were reported at 8.45am on Monday, with that number revised down to 30,874 households at 12 noon.

Blackouts extend from Adelaide’s east and foothills down to Morphett Vale and Hackham in the south.

At 12 noon, there were 2136 homes without power in the Modbury, Para Vista and Valley View area, 1376 without power in the Firle, Kensington and Magill area, and 2000 without power around Frewville.

Since 12 noon, the State Emergency Service responded to 365 incidents of trees down or weather damage, with 195 still ongoing.

SA Power Networks spokesperson Paul Roberts said power wouldn’t be restored to all households until tomorrow.

“Really, until crews can get to site and assess the damage and then make an assessment about the repairs that are required, it’s hard to give accurate restoration times,” he said.

“We have got reports of trees and branches down etcetera right along that foothills area.

“As always with these situations, there’s usually people into the next day when you get these kind of numbers.”

Roberts said additional crews had been brought in from nearby regional depots to assist metropolitan-based crews.

He said SA Power Networks had also engaged contractors and volunteers to help restore power.

People are advised to stay clear of downed wires to avoid potential electrocution.

“We thank people because it is going to require a bit of patience given the extent of this right along from Yatala Vale right down to Hackham along the foothills,” Roberts said.

It comes after the Bureau of Meteorology reported strong gully winds of up to 85km/h at Sellicks Hill at about 3am on Monday.

The bureau reported that gusts reached 76km/h at Noarlunga at about 5am.

Southeasterly winds of between 25 to 40km/h, reaching up to 50km/h about the hills and foothills, are forecast for Adelaide during the early morning and evening.

“It has eased a little bit but we are expecting the winds to remain gusty really for the next few hours,” Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Hannah Marsh told ABC Radio Adelaide this morning.
