Woman arrested after allegedly stabbing her two children

Police say they have arrested a woman who allegedly stabbed her two children overnight on an Adelaide motorway, leaving them with critical injuries.

Police say they were called to the North South Motorway at Wingfield shortly before 11.30pm last night following a call from the member of the public advising that a woman had been detained.

Two young children were taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with critical injuries. They are currently in a stable condition, police say.

A 35-year-old woman from Modbury Heights has been arrested and detained at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

“Police will allege that the woman stopped her car and removed her two young children before stabbing them with a knife,” police said in a statement.

“A member of the public stopped his car on the motorway and intervened, disarming the woman.

“Soon after he was assisted by other members of the public who restrained the woman until police arrived.”

Police say she will likely be charged with two counts of attempted murder.

The incident is under investigation by Western District Detectives, who are calling any witnesses to contact crime contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
