Police said patrols went to Arnold Close at Findon just before 2am after reports that two men were trying to open car doors and a house.

One man rode off on a mini dirt bike but was seen later in Noblet Street by a police dog patrol.

Police said the officer confronted the man and was allegedly threatened with a screwdriver before being stabbed in the hand, while alleged attempts were made to stop the police dog, Rusty.

Other patrols arrived and disarmed the man who was arrested and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of dog bite wounds.

The 27-year-old Findon man will be charged this morning

The police officer was treated at the scene by paramedics, while police dog Rusty was wearing a stab-resistant harness and was not injured.
