Truck driver charged over collision

A truck driver has been charged with dangerous driving after a collision at Para Hills left a car driver critically injured, while a man has died after a crash between a ute and a truck in the South East.

Police said a car and truck collided at the intersection of Kesters Road and Bridge Road, Para Hills just after 11am this morning.

The car driver, a 72-year-old Para Hills West man, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

An adult passenger and three young children in the car were taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital with minor injuries.

The truck driver, a 45-year-old Evanston Park, was not injured but was arrested by Major Crash investigators and charged with cause harm by dangerous driving.

He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at a later date.

Bridge Road remains closed to traffic while Major Crash officers examined the scene.

Earlier this morning, a man died following a head-on crash near Mount Gambier.

Police say they were called to Glenelg River Road at Mount Shank shortly before 7am following the collision between a light truck and a Hilux ute.

The light truck driver, a 45-year-old man from the South East, died at the scene.

The ute driver, a 64-year-old man from Mount Gambier, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The state’s road toll is now 43, compared to 55 at the same time last year.
