SA Health on Sunday confirmed the new cases are two children, a teenager, four men aged between 20 and 50 and three women after between 20 and 70.

Six are close contacts of a positive case, one acquired their infection interstate, while the remaining three cases are under investigation.

It brings the total number of active cases in the state to 64, including three people in hospital.

SA Health said a team will be sent to Indulkana in the APY Lands in the state’s far northwest to support increased testing and vaccination after COVID-19 was detected in the wastewater in the past week.

South Australia recorded its first two cases of the Omicron variant on Friday, but Premier Steven Marshall told a business lunch on the same day that there would be no lockdowns or “lockouts” ahead of Christmas. He repeated the message over the weekend.

Marshall has also revealed that health authorities are looking to reduce a newly-imposed quarantine period for vaccinated close contacts of Omicron cases – or suspected cases – from 14 days to seven.

The 14-day requirement was confirmed by chief public health officer Nicola Spurrier on Friday. She said SA was “more vulnerable” than other states to “immune-escape” from the Omnicon variant.

The close contact exposure locations listed last night include:

Melrose Park – the Derrimut 24:7 Gym, on Tuesday, December 7, from  7pm to 9.30pm.
Norwood – VDR on the Parade (patrons inside), on Wednesday, December 8 – 11.30am to 1.30pm, Thursday December 9, 7.00am to 3pm, and Friday, December 10,  7am to 9.00am.
Norwood – Vileroy on Tuesday, December 7, from 10.30am to 4pm; Wednesday, December 8 from 10.30am to 4pm; Thursday, December 9, from 10.30am to 4pm.
Plympton Park – Revive Fitness Centre, on Monday, December 6, from 10.30am to 12.30pm (the gym); on the same day from 11am to 11.15am in the creche; on the same day from 12pm to 12.15pm in the pool.
Rex Flight ZL465 – Melbourne to Adelaide (Rows 21 to 25), on Sunday, December 5, from 4.45pm to 5.40pm.
Unvaccinated people who were at these locations at these times have to quarantine for 14 days, while vaccinated people have to quarantine for seven days.
