The program includes a series of workshops with business leaders, networking opportunities and one-on-one appointments at the Pop-up Innovation Lab at Flinders at Tonsley with experts in:

  • rapid prototyping using 3D design,
  • branding, digital design, websites and apps,
  • intellectual property law,
  • management development,
  • exports,
  • cloud bookkeeping, and more.

The New Venture Institute at Flinders at Tonsley has provided business development support for hundreds of local companies, including more than 100 start-up ventures.

Flinders University New Venture Month organiser Kathryn Anderson says the consultation and business development sessions are either free or low cost, with the 3D printing workshop eligible for State Government rebates.

“Now the summer holidays are over, we’re really keen to hear from small, medium and large businesses, innovation managers and members of the public for New Venture Month at Tonsley,” Ms Anderson says.

“The business climate in 2016 presents us with a very challenging and promising time to test new ideas, and build on the old.

“As well various government agencies will have advisers at our workshops for start-ups to find out about business grants and other initiatives.”

One of the events, on 17 February, will provide “speed networking” to flesh out great new ideas between local business leaders and innovation managers, and Flinders’ business and researcher network.

Topics of New Venture Month intensive workshops include Australian innovation finds success in the USA (29 January), Will your idea work as a business? (2 February), How to get – or keep – the edge (5 February) and New Product Development and Commercialisation (19 February).

On 10 February, 100-year-old South Australian ice-cream manufacturer and exporter Golden North will tell their story.

Already 12 new business ideas have enlisted for the New Venture Month Venture Dorm program at Tonsley.
