Premier Jay Weatherill has conceded he is considering rejigging his cabinet ahead of parliament’s resumption next month.

“There might be a bit of tweaking,” he told reporters today, in response to questions about InDaily’s story last week, detailing the widespread expectation among Labor staff of an impending reshuffle.

But, as reported, any overhaul is likely to be more cosmetic than wholesale, with portfolios likely to be reallocated among existing frontbenchers.

“We’re happy with the current team,” Weatherill said.

“We had five people change at the beginning of this term of Government, and we’re hopeful that they’ll all continue.”

Certainly Labor’s most senior ministers – Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis, Attorney-General John Rau and Health Minister Jack  Snelling – are unlikely to be moved, with one insider telling InDaily: “All the capable ministers have got the important portfolios and all the useless ones have got the unimportant ones.”

The Premier returned this week from annual leave. Parliament resumes on Tuesday, February 10.
