Adult learners from the age of 17 upwards have the opportunity to undertake a free, part-time, tailored educational support program that can act as a first step towards university education.
The program will be co-delivered by Flinders University and TafeSA within a community centre environment.
Flinders University’s Manager Student Access, Mr Lee Pope, said he was delighted to be bringing the free Access Uni program to South Australia.
“This type of program will provide participants with access and opportunity to complete a Certificate III in General Education for Adults in a welcoming and supportive environment,” Mr Pope said.
“This type of program is designed for people who would like to study at tertiary education level but do not have the confidence or basic academic skills required to be successful at university or TAFE.
“Sometimes adults who have not completed secondary education think that pathways to develop numeracy and literacy skills, learning strategies and critical thinking skills are out of their reach, or that it’s too difficult.”
The Access Uni program brings learning to the learner by way of delivery in community centres. Key components of the program are a life education plan and case management approach, providing an embedded pathway that could lead to higher education studies.
The Access Uni program offers a number of benefits for participants including free access to the program, local delivery, and 16 week part-time (4 hours x 2 days a week) duration and, as a Centrelink jobseeker approved activity, the availability of crèche care.
Flinders University and TafeSA are also partnered with the Migrant Resource Centre of South Australia to co-deliver a Certificate IV in English Proficiency, specifically designed for migrant women.
If you have ever considered studying at university, or are unsure of the options available, information sessions for participants to obtain a Certificate III in General Education for Adults will be held in the Aberfoyle Park, Glandore and Hackham West Community Centres.
