Clare Valley characters shine in new film

Dec 24, 2014

Clare Valley’s food and wine producers of today and yesterday are the stars of a new short film promoting the region’s proud lineage.

The seven-minute presentation focuses on the personal stories of the Clare Valley, recounting stories of long-running family businesses, ex-pats who have returned to carry on their parents’ legacy and locals who started their own iniatives.

The film, Regeneration by the New Generation, was funded from an $80,000 regional development grant from the State Government last year. It is part of a wider project to build worldwide demand for premium food and wine from the region.

It showcases a mix of winemakers, food producers, chefs and tourism operators who say they are proud to grow up, live and work in the area.

Among those featured are Skillogalee Wines who have led the fine dining movement in Clare for 25 years, Mitchell Wines whose founder Jane helped to establish the Clare Gourmet Festival and Jim Barry Wines whose family was the first to have three generations graduate from Adelaide University’s Roseworthy campus.

Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Minister Leon Bignell said it was a demonstration of a community capitalising on the state’s premium and clean reputation and “adding value to it”.

“The Clare Valley is a great example of a region that works together to ensure the food, wine and tourism industries remain strong, continue to provide local jobs and generate important revenue for the state’s economy,” Bignell said.

The film was made by the Clare Valley Alliance, the local Visual and Performing Arts Association, the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council and Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North.
