For those who don’t know the background, the family of superheroes consists of Mr Incredible / Bob (voiced by Craig T Nelson), his wife Elastigirl / Helen (Holly Hunter) and their three children Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack, all of whom possess superpowers.

The premise for Incredibles 2 is that Mum goes out to work doing superhero stunts while Dad stays at home, trying to juggle the various requirements of their three children. Baby Jack-Jack refuses to sleep, Violet (Sarah Vowell) is nervous about her first date and Dash (Huck Milner) is struggling with his maths homework.

It feels like a feminist step forward in the Disney/Pixar world that the woman is the main character, and the man actually gets a grip on the home front even though he initially seems out of his depth.

There are some really funny scenes, and the relationship between Jack-Jack and superhero costume designer Edna Mode (voiced by writer-director Brad Bird) is golden as the baby begins to discover his superpowers.

Without giving too much away, the struggle between good and evil is quite predictable and the fight scenes are over-the-top, but that is as it should be in this kind of movie. It is about superheroes, after all.

Brad Bird has done a fine job of bringing all the favourite characters back together again and the score by Michael Giacchino is brilliant. Incredibles 2 is highly recommended viewing for the entire family.
