The program, which features over 45 events across 15 venues, is described by director Paul Boylon as a “melting pot” of “more traditional styles alongside genre-bending trailblazers embracing new technologies and forms”.

New Yorker Pamela Shaw and Western Australian Tomás Ford are this year’s festival ambassadors. They will play a prominent role in a new ‘Salon Discussion & Masterclass Series’, which will provide mentoring for emerging South Australian performing arts students.

The free sessions, to be held at Cabaret Fringe headquarters La Bohéme, will provide aspiring performers with the opportunity to engage in “intimate discussions” with the Cabaret Fringe performers.

“The Cabaret Fringe is really about a community of artists and this year we have looked to engage emerging artists with our ambassadors so that they can learn from them first-hand,” creative director Jennifer Kingwell said.

“Tomás Ford is an incredibly independent artist – he has really forged his own path and is so visionary in his blending of cabaret with different technologies. I believe he is the first performer in Australia to bring electronic music and blend it with the cabaret genre.

“Pamela has a lot of experience in film and TV and is an independent artist in her own right.”

This year’s program features a host of new performance venues including Adelaide’s Treasury Tunnels, the Adelaide Rowing Club and Raj House.

The festival will launch on June 1 with an Opening Night Gala at The German Club featuring performers across the Cabaret Fringe.

Highlights from this year’s program include:

Allegria After Dark: Local a cappella group Allegria will perform a selection of ethereal melodies in the underground Adelaide Treasury Tunnels.

Tomás Ford: Crap Music Rave Party: Festival ambassador and electronic multimedia artist Tomás Ford invites partygoers to relive music rave parties of the 1980s for this aerobics-inspired cabaret show.

Choo and Cheek: Adelaide burlesque group Choo La La will combine risqué dance moves with sultry vocals for an “intimate night of tasteful, tantalising tease”.

Ultracade Live: This “nostalgic club event” will celebrate the games and sounds of gaming culture with an interactive video game screen projection and live DJ set.

Cross Legged: Cody, a self-proclaimed pessimist, will share her struggles to become a cabaret star in this storytelling performance.

Recuerdos: Musicians and dancers will conjure memories of the Rio Guadalquivir for a flamenco-inspired cabaret show.

iDenTITTY: Described as a “cabaret adventure into the world of breast ownership”, Kitty Van Horne’s cabaret show will explore the body as a private space, political subject and cultural object.
