Towards June’s Optimism

 I. Wave

The wave
of a hand
through your
absence, the air
shifts a little
dust, to sneeze
& your presence
as bodies would rattle
against themselves
to create something
maybe, just maybe
bigger than ourselves.

II. Vine

Bud burst at the end of the uncut cane
wrapped & growing north
towards June’s optimism
vines
just add
water
for this
life
a green
embrace
of vines
around
the neck
of summer.

Rory Harris currently tutors at Playford College, a small R-10 school in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. His most recent collection of poems was ‘Beach’ in 2016.
