There are acrobatics and hula-hoops, sure enough as there are fart jokes and bum jokes.

Predictability can be a blessing when you’re taking children to a 50-minute show, but it can also be a bit of a drag when you spend $20 per ticket and you want to be wowed. What keeps this show from becoming a completely predictable cliché is the stellar chemistry between performers Malia Walsh and Chris Carlos, who together get kids laughing and clapping and even dancing while trying to prove the point that children are not only stinky, but scared, lazy, uncoordinated and somehow lack imagination.

Everyone knows this is wrong and eventually Walsh and Carlos work it out, too, proving that children are awesome.

Circus Trick Tease is an accomplished company. Mick Jagger is quoted as saying, “That was amazing!” after one of their shows, and Carlos performed at Pink’s Australian tour after-party (can you get any better with the name-dropping?). The company has also taken home the coveted Children’s Choice Award at the Edinburgh Festival.

This isn’t the first run of Children are Stinky, but Walsh and Carlos appear fresh as a duo. They confidently ad-lib and seem to genuinely crack each other up. Most importantly, though, they crack up the children in the audience, and adults won’t have a problem getting caught up in the laughter, either.

With a rocking soundtrack to boot, I’m giving it four stars.
