Cochran, aka Jimmy C, is originally from Adelaide and studied visual art at UniSA, developing what he describes as a “signature aerosol pointillist style” that emerged from the convergence of his interest in graffiti and oil painting.

He is now based in London, where his painting of David Bowie on a wall in Brixton shortly after the singer’s death earlier this year became an unofficial shrine at which Bowie fans laid tributes.

Cochran says some of his first exhibitions were held in conjunction with Adelaide Fringe and he is “honoured” to be an ambassador for the 2017 event, alongside singer and actor Hugh Sheridan and American performer Adrienne Truscott (of The Wau Wau Sisters).

“The month of February is one of my favourite times of Adelaide … there are a lot of people circulating at that time and the energy across the city is scintillating,” Cochran told InDaily.

“I have always been supportive of the arts in Adelaide and there is always a lot of emerging talent coming from the city.

“The Fringe also brings an international audience … and that fusion and network is a wonderful thing.”

Cochran has been involved in previous street art and community arts projects in South Australia, and created a portrait (above) at 127 Rundle Street during this year’s Fringe Street Art Explosion.

Next year, he will work with local street artists involved in the 2017 Street Art Explosion.

“I will aim to paint a wall whilst I am there and will undertake workshops and mentoring work with some of the young artists.”

The 2017 Adelaide Fringe will run from February 17 until March 19, with the program to be revealed on December 2.
