InReview and Light, an innovative arts and hospitality venture on Light Square, tonight presents the first in a series of provocative forums on the future of the arts in South Australia – Spotlight on the Arts.

Join us from 5pm at The Lab for a rigorous discussion on all the issues surrounding arts funding from the basic artists’ wage being applied in some European countries to the rise of philanthropically supported programs to the sometimes vexed relationship between government, companies and individual artists.

InReview’s David Washington will unpack the issues with a panel including philanthropist and Light founder Nick Dunstone, Vitalstatistix director Emma Webb and UniSA professor of cultural economy Justin O’Connor.

There will be plenty of time for questions from the audience and the event will be recorded by InReview for release as a podcast.

Australian String Quartet set for innovative London performances

The Adelaide-based ASQ today announced a season of London performances hosted by the Royal Albert Hall – the quartet’s first international shows since November 2018.

The ASQ will perform in September at the ANAM Quartetthaus – a temporary venue designed in Australia to highlight the “theatrical and visceral art of quartet playing” – which will be installed in London.

As part of the appearances, the quartet will present the world premiere of a work by Australian composer Jack Symonds.

ASQ violinist Dale Barltrop highlighted the cultural exchange aspect of the performances.

“The impact of live performance in the ANAM Quartetthaus is extraordinarily powerful, immersive, and intimate,” he said. “It is with great pride that we will represent Australia alongside our wonderful ANAM peers and share the stage with musicians from the Royal College of Music at the iconic Royal Albert Hall.”

The performances are supported by Arts SA.
