For the first time in three years, Scottish duo The Proclaimers are back down under and will be visiting Adelaide for a gig at the Thebarton Theatre on Tuesday night (May 28). Twins Charlie and Craig Reid released their 11th studio album, Angry Cyclist, last August, so audiences can expect both new songs and classics like “Let’s Get Married”, “Sunshine on Leith” and “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”. The work of the 23 finalists in the 2019 Ramsay Art Prize is on show in an exhibition being launched tonight at the Art Gallery of SA. The $100,000 acquisitive prize is open to contemporary Australian artists under the age of 40, with this year’s finalists working across a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, installation art and even taxidermy. The gallery will also host a Neo event for teens on Saturday evening, offering those aged 13 to 17 a chance to view the Ramsay Art Prize exhibition, meet emerging artists, take part in workshops and sketch tours, and hear a range of live music acts. The exhibition continues until August 25.

State Opera South Australia’s production of Czech composer Leoš Janáček’s whimsical opera Cunning Little Vixen will have its final performance at the Adelaide Showgrounds’ Ridley Centre tomorrow night. Directed by Stuart Maunder and with accompaniment from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the opera features a charismatic Vixen (Desiree Frahn), a handsome fox (Antoinette Halloran) and a menagerie of forest creatures in colourful costumes, exploring themes of renewal, nature and the cycle of life. HEDONISM

HEDONISM is the name and theme of a new exhibition opening today at the University of South Australia’s Museum of Discovery (MOD.).  Presented over seven gallery spaces, it is designed to explore the act of self-indulgence and provoke discussion on how to make it sustainable for young people. A colourful roster of interactive works designed by SA artists explores ideas such as how microbes affect your mood, whether the Twitter feed is truly happy, if fake plants (and virtual worlds) can induce pleasure, and whether the Pleasure Arcade 5000 is for you. HEDONISM will run until November.

Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of their first musical collaboration, Bitch Epic, and the release of their 10th studio album, The Words of Men, Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier have embarked on a national tour and will be playing at the Governor Hindmarsh next Thursday (May 30). Conway says The Words of Men, released in February, is a distinctly “human” album: “We have very human concerns and we wanted to make a record that sounds human, with creaks and breaths and joy and passion”. After the interval, the pair will play Bitch Epic in its entirety.
