Mumford & Sons 

British band Mumford & Sons are playing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Thursday as part of a world tour which coincides with the launch of their new single, “Guiding Light”. The band, whose hits “Little Lion Man” and “I Will Wait” saw them rise to fame, will also perform tracks from their latest album, Delta, which lead singer Marcus Mumford says represents “a place where order meets chaos and shelter meets wilderness”. They’re being supported by Australian singer-songwriter Gretta Ray and UK soul musician Michael Kiwanuka. Last time we checked, tickets were still available.

Madiba the Musical

Madiba the Musical is described as a “beautiful summing up of what makes Mandela, Mandela” by lead actor Perci Moeketsi in this InDaily story. Created by French composer Jean-Pierre Hadida and produced by Australian Neil Croker, the musical tells the story of former South African leader Nelson Mandela’s fight for peace and reconciliation – 25 years since the abolition of apartheid in South Africa. It opened at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre last night, with performances running until January 20.

Neneh Cherry

Veteran Swedish pop icon Neneh Cherry will head to the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel tonight to celebrate the launch of her new album, Broken Politics. Cherry is well known for incorporating social and political messages in her music, including her feminist album Woman and her commentary on world issues in the hit “7 Seconds”. Her latest album is described as revealing “the beauty and ugliness of modern society” by touching on issues like gun control, feminism and race. Joining Cherry at The Gov will be Belgian-Caribbean electronic artist WWWater (Charlotte Adigery).

North by Northwest

This weekend is your last chance to catch this action-paced stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 film North by Northwest at the Festival Theatre.  Actor Matt Day plays the lead role of dapper New York advertising executive Roger O Thornhill, and says the show is a gripping thriller full of non-stop action from beginning to end. The classic spy story sees Thornhill chased across America after being mistaken for a government agent, with Amber McMahon playing the role of femme fatale Eve Kendall.  

Last of the Red Hot Lovers  

This production of Neil Simon’s Last of the Red Hot Lovers, presented by local theatre group STARC and showing at Bakehouse Theatre from Wednesday, is described as a “brilliant and devastating satiric comedy about romantic sexual desire and harsh reality”. The play follows the story of a successful New York restaurateur and father of three who is going  through a mid-life crisis. Last of the Red Hot Lovers will play until February 2.

Moonlight Cinema

Moonlight outdoor cinema continues at Botanic Park this weekend with a mix of action and comedy films. Tonight’s film – Crazy Rich Asians – follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s family. Tomorrow night’s film, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, is the second instalment in JK Rowling’s Wizarding World. Other upcoming screenings are family film Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Sunday), A Simple Favour (Tuesday), Green Book (Wednesday) and A Star is Born (Thursday). Gates open at 7pm, with films starting at sundown. Moonlight Cinema runs until February 17. Keep an eye on Facebook for possible cancellations due to the weather.
