The Art Battle Spectacular – Angas Street

This free pop-up event will see eight South Australian artists challenged to create new works in just 45 minutes in a live art battle at the carpark behind 154 Pultney Street in the city from 5pm on Saturday. Produced by visual artist and curator Kat Coppock with support from Splash Adelaide, it will also feature musicians, pop-up bars, DJs, food trucks, arts and craft stalls, and interactive arts activities. Tarnanthi – Art Gallery of SA

The Art Gallery of South Australia’s Tarnanthi displays, which encompass painting, sculpture, multi-media and other artworks by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, closes on Sunday. At 2pm on Saturday in the Radford Auditorium, Kaurna language teacher Jack Buckskin will give a free Kaurna language presentation, in which he will talk about his passionate rediscovery of his own Indigenous culture and language, before performing a special ceremony to mark the end of the exhibition.

Citydash: Escape from Wonderland

Described as “a high­speed scavenger hunt crossed with hide and seek”, Citydash involves teams of participants racing around the city solving cryptic clues while seeking to outwit and outrun the Red Queen, the White Rabbit and other Wonderland characters. Run by street-games outfit Fire Hazard, and fresh from a season at Edinburgh Fringe, it starts in Hindmarsh Square at 1.30pm on Saturday (January 16) and will be returning for more dates during the Adelaide Fringe. Ghost the Musical – Festival Theatre

Ghost The Musical re-creates the love story at the centre of the 1990 film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. Set in modern-day New York and employing an array of special effects and illusions, the stage show features a cast including Rob Mills and Jemma Rix, and original music and lyrics by a team of Grammy Award-winners including Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard. Harvest Festival – McLaren Vale

Gates open at 11am on Saturday (January 16) at McLaren Vale Oval for the annual Harvest Festival, with events such as cooking demonstrations by local chefs, food and drink master-classes, and main-stage entertainment including Courtney Robb, Chris Finnen and Cal Williams Jnr, Flourish Tribal Dancers, Tongue & Groove, and The Reggaenators. There’s also kids’ activities, plus food, beer, wine and cider stalls. Full program here.

Club Swizzle – Space Theatre

Described as “a melee of outrageous cabaret, air-defying acrobatics and infectious musical revelry”, Club Swizzle’s season at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Space Theatre closes on Sunday (January 17). It is hosted by New York comedian and entertainer Murray Hill, with a house band and performers including acrobats the Swizzle Boys, cabaret singer Ali McGregor, Russian circus performer Valerie Murzak, UK burlesque artist Laurie Hagen and New York jazz singer Dandy Wellington. Mr Mallia’s Matinee Muster – The Gov

Adelaide band Lucky Seven Swing will present a family-friendly line-up of local rockabilly and swing acts at The Governor Hindmarsh from 2pm on Sunday. The program runs all afternoon, with other acts including The Satellites, The Saucerman, The Lincolns and Pumpin’ Piano Cats. On Saturday night, “punk music circus” God God Dammit Dammit will play a gig at The Gov to launch their second album, Soul Dice.

Moonlight Cinema – Botanic Park

There will be an advance screening of new film Spotlight, about how Boston Globe journalists uncovered the scandal of child abuse within the local Catholic Archdiocese, at the Moonlight Cinema in Botanic Park on Saturday (January 16). Other upcoming films include The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (Friday), The Intern (Sunday), The Danish Girl, Room and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Gates open at 7pm and screenings start at sundown. Guitar Festival Summer School and concerts – Festival Centre

The Guitar Festival Summer School, a week of intensive classical guitar playing and skills development with guitar teachers from around the country plus international guest tutors, will be held at the Adelaide Festival Centre from January 18-22. As part of the school, there will also be two concerts: one at the Dunstan Playhouse on January 22 featuring participants and tutors (including artistic director Slava Grigoryan) and a recital event in the centre’s Artspace Gallery on January 22 by Italian guitar players Massimo Scattolin and Andrea Vettoretti.

Nganmarra – Santos Museum of Economic Botany

Subtitled The Container of Life and part of the Tarnanthi Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Art, Nganmarra is an installation of woven art by senior women artists from Bula’bula Arts in Ramingining, north-east Arnhem Land. It is at the Santos Museum of Economic Botany in the Botanic Gardens until January 31. Details here.

Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition – Festival Centre

 Amazing images offering a snapshot of world events and Australian life from the past year are on display in this exhibition at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Artspace Gallery. The photos were all taken by finalists in the Nikon-Walkley Awards for Excellence in Photojournalism and capture everything from sporting triumphs to the ice epidemic. The exhibition runs until January 24, and you can take a peek here.

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries costume exhibition

Close to 50 costumes created by award-winning costume designer Marion Boyce and featured in ABC TV’s third series of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are on display in this exhibition at historic Ayres House Museum. Including themed rooms and interactive displays, the exhibition continues until February 14, 2016.
