ASO at the Ballet

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will join forces with dancers from the Australian Ballet School for this concert featuring excerpts from Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. Conducted by Mark Taddei, the concerts will be at the Festival Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre, on Friday and Saturday (November 20-21) evenings. Full program available here.

Deep South Festival – The Gov

This blues, roots and folk festival is taking place at the Governor Hindmarsh over two days and four nights until Sunday (November 22). It is headlined by blues guitarist Ray Beadle, with other acts including The Backsliders, Fiona Boyes, Jan Preston’s Boogie Circus, The Mojo Webb Band, Pugsley Buzzard and Brenton Manser. AC/DC – Adelaide Oval

AC/DC’s Rock or Bust world tour, celebrating the release of the Aussie rockers’ latest album, will turn up the volume at Adelaide Oval on Saturday. The show features support acts The Hives and Kingswood, with gates open from 5.15pm, although fans are likely to start queuing much earlier. Tickets were still available last we looked.

Feast Festival

Feast Festival features a packed line-up of music, comedy and theatre shows, community events, visual art and film. Queer Station, from 11am until 6pm on Sunday (November 22) at Station Place, Hindmarsh, is a family day featuring live music, food, giant puppets and Cirkidz performers. At the Art Gallery of SA tonight (November 20), gallery director Nick Mitzevich and Dr Gertrude Glossip will host a “discourse” on queer art and artists. San Cisco and The Aston Shuffle – Fat Controller

San Cisco will be the first band to play at new Adelaide bar and live music venue Fat Controller when it opens tonight (Friday). The Aston Shuffle plays on Saturday night, with other acts lined up for the coming months including Neon Indian, Northeast Party House and The Delta Riggs. And in case you’re wondering, Fat Controller, on the corner of Bank Street and North Terrace, takes its name from the Thomas the Tank Engine character.

The Popular Mechanicals – State Theatre

This play within a play follows the backstory of bumbling amateur thespians the Rude Mechanicals from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Described as a “hysterically funny mix of verse, song and dance”, it’s being presented by the State Theatre Company of SA at the Space Theatre until November 27. Bowerbird design market – Adelaide Showgrounds

Bowerbird is back at the Adelaide Showgrounds from November 20-22 for its annual spring-summer showcase, with more than 130 designer-makers selling everything from cards and trinkets, to fashion, jewellery, homewares and furniture. There will also be food stalls and a Friday night bar. Bowerbird is open from 2pm-9pm on Friday, and from 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Zephyr Quartet – Wheatie

The Zephyr Quartet is hosting a party at the Wheatsheaf Hotel from 2pm on Saturday to raise money towards its first Adelaide Festival show, Exquisite Corpse. The quartet will be performing itself, alongside Jason & Silver Moon and Jarrad Payne (one half of voiceROM). There will also be games, a silent auction, door prizes and live art.

Crafty Beer Fork

The Fork on the Road food-truck gathering this evening (November 20) will feature some of Adelaide’s best craft brewers. The event will be held in Light Square between 5pm and 10pm.

Coonawarra on Leigh Street

Leigh Street is hosting more than a dozen Coonawarra wineries for this event, which begins at 4.30pm today (November 20), with wine available to purchase until 7.30pm.  More information is available here.

Experience Floyd – Thebarton Theatre

This Pink Floyd concept show presented by a group of Adelaide musicians is described as a three-hour sound and light extravaganza. The 11-piece band plays all the Floyd hits, including “Dark Side of the Moon”, “The Wall” and “Wish You Were Here”. More than 20 students from Immanuel Primary School will join the group to sing a medley from The Wall. Experience Floyd is at the Thebby tonight (November 20).

Only an Orphan Girl – Adelaide Rep

Featuring “a moustache-twirling villain, a damsel in distress, and a dashing hero”, music hall melodrama Only an Orphan Girl is being presented by the Adelaide Repertory Theatre at the Arts Theatre from November 19-21 and November 25-28. The show mixes popular old songs, comedy, drama and variety acts, with audience members encouraged to dress up in Victorian costume and join in the singing. Read InDaily review here.

Red Velvet – Independent Theatre

This play by English playwright and actor Lolita Chakrabarti recounts the true story of African-American actor Ira Aldridge, who saved the day at the Theatre Royal in Covent Garden in 1833 when he took over the role of Othello after the lead actor collapsed on stage. It is set during a time when the British Parliament was debating the abolition of slavery, and pro- and anti-abolition protests were raging. Independent Theatre is presenting Red Velvet at the Goodwood Institute from November 20-28.

Naturally – Restless Dance Theatre

Themes of love and attraction are explored in this new double bill by Adelaide-based Restless Dance Theatre, which is playing at the Odeon Theatre in Norwood until November 21. Naturally comprises Touched, directed by Michelle Ryan and performed by the Youth Ensemble, and What’s a Nice Girl Like You Doing in a Place Like This?, directed by Emma Stokes with the Restless Senior Ensemble. Playford Alive Community Fun Day

X Factor winner Samantha Jade is headlining this free family event at Playford Alive’s new town park from 10am-3pm on Saturday. There will also be community stalls, other musicians, face painting, kids’ activities, and food and drink vendors. Details here.

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries costume exhibition

Close to 50 costumes created by award-winning costume designer Marion Boyce and featured in ABC TV’s third series of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are on display in this exhibition at historic Ayres House Museum. Including themed rooms and interactive displays, the exhibition continues until February 14, 2016.

Climate Century – Vitalstatistix and SA Maritime Museum

Artists worked with Adelaide environmentalists to create a range of art works for this exhibition imagining the effects of climate change in the coastal and river environments of Port Adelaide and the LeFevre Peninsula. The resulting visual art, sound and “live art” works are being presented in various locations around Port Adelaide, alongside public events and talks. Details here.

Tarnanthi art exhibitons

Tarnanthi Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art exhibitions encompassing painting, sculpture, multi-media and other artforms continue at the Art Gallery of South Australia until January 17. Other continuing Tarnanthi exhibitons include the Archie Moore: Les Eaux d’Amoore perfume portraits at the Samstag Museum of Art, Tarnanthi Textiles at Tandanya, Shimmer at the Jam Factory, the Desart Photography Prize at the State Library, Near Horizons at the Migration Museum, andNganmarra – the Container of Life at the Santos Museum of Economic Botany.
