Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco Walking Tour

Mar 07, 2014

Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco Walking Tour is a soul-lifting hour of uninhibited fun.

There was a slight air of nervous tension as the audience gathered by the Malls Balls (the very site where disco first landed on planet Earth – who knew?), but any inhibitions instantly disappeared the moment we donned our headphones and met our Lycra-clad tour guide, Guru Dudu.

Through the headphones we became the silent disco. In our own world of music inaudible to the public, we danced carefree through the streets. It was fun, engaging and genuinely liberating. I couldn’t stop smiling and dancing from start to finish.

After a quick “warm up” of disco-yoga, we were off through the city dancing to our own tune. This is an experience that suits every age; our group included the very young right through to those significantly wiser in years, all of whom had a ball.

Guru Dudu’s magical headphones – which make you sing like a rock star and dance like a disco diva, yet also keep you safe when crossing roads – had everyone instantly in “the zone” with a collection of rock ballads, disco classics and edgy pop. Witty commentary from the Guru kept the group together and coordinated in spontaneous flash-mobs.

We serenaded strangers, became at one with our environment with a spot of interpretive dancing, and turned heads as we weaved our way through the streets and into the Garden of Unearthly Delights.

If this sounds uncomfortable, confronting or not really your “thing”, I beg you to challenge yourself; the scariest part is buying the ticket. The world is a better place for a bit of dancing in public.

I can honestly say Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco Walking Tour has been my favourite Fringe experience in a few years. I cannot wait to join in again.
