Hans – Like a German

Mar 05, 2014

From the moment Hans bursts on stage singing “The Bitch is Back”, you know you’re in for a fun night.  There he is, the Boy Wonder of Berlin and darling of the Mars Bar, strutting around the stage in a dazzling combination of blue eye-shadow and pink sequins.

Accompanied by the excellent band The Ungrateful Bastards and the high-kicking dancers The Lucky Bitches, Hans – Like a German is an hour of campy cabaret comedy.  The songs are all there, including a clever medley of all the cabaret songs from the other shows, sung in just four minutes.

Hans’ greatest strength is his ability to work the crowd.  His humour is always finely balanced – he’s bitchy, of course, darlings, but never too hurtful.   As he works the room, he knows exactly who is up for some fun and who is studiously avoiding his gaze.  Thank God, not me, thinks the man next to me as Hans picks Owen from Hyde Park to be his victim.  Owen is a great sport and gets far closer to Hans than he expected for his $33 ticket.

There was a packed house at the Paradiso Spiegeltent on Monday night, so book now for next week’s show.  And you can even buy a personally signed Hans doll after the show!

One more show only: March 10, 7pm, in the Paradiso Spiegeltent, Garden of Unearthly Delights.
