Voting opens to decide the 2021 Ag Town of the Year
Nearly 60 communities are in the running for the annual competition to find the best agricultural town in South Australia.
Public voting has opened to decide which of the 59 nominated agricultural towns will take the crown as the state’s best for 2021.
More than 90 nominations were received for the 59 towns since the 2021 Ag Town of the Year Award ballot opened a month ago.
Voting is as simple as visiting www.agtown.com.au for the full list of nominations and checking the button for your favourite.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham said it is pleasing to see nearly 60 different South Australian towns nominated for this year’s award.
“During tough times, the resilience of our regional communities shine and 2021 has thrown up many challenges, particularly with the impacts of COVID-19,” he said.
“Agriculture has continued to keep moving through the COVID-19 restrictions to ensure food from South Australia appears on tables across the country and world.
“I’m proud this award throws the spotlight on our regions and demonstrates the best of agricultural towns in South Australia.”
Cleve won the inaugural award in 2019 and Pinnaroo was crowned last year.
Voting will remain open until 5pm on Thursday 2 September and then the five towns with the most votes will be visited by the judging panel to determine which town will win the title in 2021.
The winner will be announced in November at the 2021 Regional Showcase Awards, the annual celebration of the state’s regions run by Solstice Media, the publisher of InDaily, SALIFE, CityMag and The Lead South Australia.
Basham said the Ag Town of the Year Award recognises the importance of agriculture in South Australia and the positive economic impact the entire supply chain has on a township and community.
“Our regions matter – they contribute around $29 billion per year to the South Australian economy across a range of industries including farming, fishing, mining, manufacturing and tourism,” he said.
“This is why our government is investing record amounts in regional South Australia to build key infrastructure, drive economic growth and create jobs.
