Pearson lives by the mantra “Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all” and if his achievements to date are anything to go by, he is achieving this goal.

The co-founder of Adelaide-based Internet of Things company Fleet Space Technologies, Pearson also founded Alauda Aeronautics, which designs and manufactures flying cars.

The 35-year-old dreamt of flying cars becoming a reality as a boy. He said Alauda is preparing to announce the first full-scale GP flying car races following the development of its performance electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles, which were on show at the SA Aerospace and Information Warfare Forum this week.

“One thing that binds all successful entrepreneurs is the marriage of vision and optimism,” Pearson said.

“Inherently, I believe that great challenges can be overcome by bringing together the best minds in their fields and providing them with the tools to innovate and find solutions.”

Pearson said that because he is in the twin businesses of racing and space technology, every day comes with risks and challenges.

“What this has taught me is that we learn little from our unqualified successes,” Pearson said.

“For me, it is about creating a culture that permits learning from our setbacks. This is especially important when innovating with new technologies. Not every test flight or prototype launch is going to yield expected results.”

To counter this Pearson said they promote an open culture of discussion, assessment and rapid iteration of their technical approach based on those learnings.

“This is where I’m so inspired working with senior minds from F1,” he said.

“Their world dictates a daily fast, learn and innovate culture that I have taken to all of my businesses. Like anything, it is about taking every opportunity from a situation, learning and growing.”

It’s no surprise, then, to learn that the last streaming series he binged wasFormula One – Drive to Survive”.

Pearson now joins the 200 alumni of South Australia’s 40 Under 40, a leadership network that is gaining influence across the state.
