A shortlist of winning wines

Australian wines often perform well on the world stage. Wine exports are now growing at their fastest rate since 2007 thanks mainly to a combination of growing demand from China and the falling Aussie dollar.

We have an impressively diverse range of wine regions and styles to hang our hats on, but when you have been named International Winemaker of the Year three times since 2009, at the famous International Wine & Spirit Competition, you know you’re doing something right. In fact, you’re doing many, many things exactly right.

McGuigan Wines is one of only two wineries in the world to ever have won the prestigious award 3 times in its 46 year history. From humble family beginnings in the late 1800s in the Hunter Valley, the winery now spans 4 generations and has vineyards in several key regions throughout Australia such as the Hunter Valley, Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. The McGuigan family including chief winemaker Neil McGuigan, along with Brian & Fay McGuigan, still control the winery and continue their deep commitment and passion for Australian wine.

McGuigan Shortlist Shiraz Video Tasting note:

Many Aussies will be familiar with the McGuigan Black Label Red, after all it is the largest selling bottled red wine in the country and the catalyst behind the brand’s significant growth since the 1990s. This easy drinking red blend has driven significant international sales, with the brand now exporting its products to over 20 countries, particularly to the large UK market. But McGuigan has many feathers in its hat.

Their multi-award winning Shortlist range highlights the best wine varietals from premium regions, with each limited release bottle being individually numbered. James Halliday, one of Australia’s most respected and trusted wine critics, has highly rated the entire Shortlist range. The Chardonnay represents premium Adelaide Hills fruit, brimming with stone fruit and spicy oak, while the Shiraz sourced from the Barossa Valley hits its stride with the full bodied lush plum and blackberry notes and long finish that exemplify the variety.

McGuigan Shortlist Chardonnay Video Tasting  note:

While we Australians are spoilt for wine choice, particularly in the $20-$30 premium wine bracket, wines such as the Shortlist range clearly demonstrate why our wines perform so well overseas. They vindicate our ethos of great value quality produce.

McGuigan The Shortlist Shiraz 2012 & The Shortlist Chardonnay 2012 special price $21.99ea (RRP $30). Limited Stock available from Fassina Liquor Stores. (Special available until 30-11-2015)
