Food and drink happenings in SA, including the Adelaide Convention Centre’s Hot 100 Winter Harvest – featuring two tasty degustations –  Treasury 1860’s new series of courtyard beer events, a Plant 4 twilight vegan market, and Patagonian Nights at Pink Moon Saloon.

Hot 100 Winter Harvest – June 29-30

Taking place over two days at the Adelaide Convention Centre, this event offers the chance to try some of South Australia’s hottest wines as well as taking part in masterclasses such as Pinot & Fondue, Music + Wine, and Vermouth + Fortified with Native Food. Also part of the Hot 100 Winter Harvest are two tasty-sounding degustations: a 150 Years of Henschke degustation lunch on June 29, hosted by winemaker Stephen Henschke, and the EOFY Hot 100 Degustation Dinner on June 30, which will feature four courses – including maple-smoked pork belly and lamb rack – matched to wines from Hot 100 finalists. Boilermakers with Starward + Little Bang + NOLA – June 21

If you fancy an evening of whisky, beer and soul food, get yourself along to this event at NOLA on Vardon Avenue. The East End small bar is joining with Starward Distillery and Little Bang Brewing to create five beer/whisky/food combinations. The fun begins at 7pm, and tickets (available here) are $70pp.

Plant Based at Plant 4 – June 23

This twilight edition of the Plant 4 market at Bowden is billed as “an entirely vegan event”. Expect a range of plant-based foods along with SA beer, wine, cider and cocktails, stalls, kids’ activities and music. Plant Based is on from 4pm-10pm on Saturday and entry is free. There will also be a “Adelaide’s next top pet” event in the adjacent Plant 3.

In the Courtyard with Pirate Life Brewing – June 24

As part of a new series of winter events, Treasury 1860 on King William Street is teaming up with Pirate Life Brewing to present what it has dubbed In the Courtyard: Episode 1. To be held in the restaurant’s courtyard marquee, the event will see guests enjoy a tasting flight of four Pirate Life beers – including the limited-release Unfazed by the Haze IPA and 2017 Vintage Stout – with a paired canapé. Tickets are $15 if booked in advance or $20 on the day. Further In the Courtyard events are planned with Big Shed (July 29) and Little Bang Brewing (August 26).

Pink Moon Saloon’s Harvest Moon banquet dinners – June & July

Pink Moon Saloon is warming up winter in the West End with a series of mid-week long-table dinners. Each 16-seat Harvest Moon dinner sees chefs Matthew Standen and Angus Love cook a themed menu that matches with the work of different guest winemakers. Next up is “Patagonian Nights”, with wines from Tomfoolery (June 27).

Mayura Station dinner at 2KW – June 27

SA Wagyu beef producer Mayura Station and 2KW Bar and Restaurant are presenting this “meats for the senses” dinner, which will celebrate beef, Japanese whisky, red wine and dark beer. Think dishes like Wagyu pancetta and Wagyu rump cecina matched with a black IPA, and Yuzu sorbet with a Yamazaki apricot old-fashioned. Tickets are $130pp, with the full menu available here.

Adelaide Beer and BBQ Festival – July 6-8

This year’s festival at the historic Brick Dairy Pavillion at Adelaide Showgrounds will deliver three days of beer, barbecue and beats, including discussions with brewers, master-classes and the Up in Smoke BBQ competition. More than 60 brewers and cider-makers will be represented at the festival, and BBQ ambassador Duncan Welgemoed of Africola has curated a line-up of barbecuers including Canadian TV chef Matty Matheson, the boys from Adelaide’s Low ‘N’ Slow American BBQ and Victorian vegan chef Shannon Martinez. Barossa Seasons: Winter – July 6-8

Offering an excellent incentive to abandon your winter hibernation, this series of events in the Barossa includes Winterville, a Christmas in July cocktail party and European-style Christmas Fair hosted by Barossa Distilling; a 1918 Centenary Lunch hosted by 1918 Bistro & Grill; a fortified wine and chocolate truffle matching event at Liebichwein winery, and a fire-pit feast at Schild Estate. Cheese-A-Holics Cheese Festival – July 22

If you love cheese, then Plant 4 Bowden will be the place to be from 11am-6pm on July 22. The Cheese-A-Holics Cheese Festival will offer the chance to taste cheese from the likes of Udder Delights, Milawa Cheese, La Vera, Edwards Crossing and Ashgrove Cheese, as well as sparkling wines from Lloyd Brothers and Paxtons Winery. There will also be two masterclasses on offer: an Italian Cheese and Wine Masterclass with Antonio from Bottega Roloto and a Cheese and Alcohol Lovers Masterclass (looking at pairing cheese with beer and cider) with Lauretta Whittaker from Cheese-A-Holics. Festival entry is $10 and masterclasses are $20 each.

Winter Reds – July 27-27

The Adelaide Hills is gearing up for its annual red wine fest, with more than 30 wineries hosting events during this year’s Winter Reds. A few likely highlights are a five-course truffle dinner at Penfolds Magill Estate Restaurant; a “low, slow, smoky barbecue” accompanied by museum reds, and soul and blues music at Longview Vineyard; an “Armchair Pinot Tasting” at Anderson Hill at Lenswood, and a “Taste of Tuscany” seasonal degustation meal matched with rare museum wines at Bird in Hand. Wizardry High Tea – August 19

This Harry Potter-themed high tea at Stamford Plaza Adelaide includes a “butter beer cocktail” on arrival and sweet and savoury treats such as Haigh’s chocolate frog slice, Muggle quiche Lorraine and Ginny’s Pygmy Curry puffs. A “master wizard” and balloon artist will attend the high tea to help guests make their own wands. Tickets are $52 for adults and $27 for children aged five to 12.
