Shottesbrooke Afternoon Delights – April 1

McLaren Flat winery Shottesbrooke’s Afternoon Delights, from 11am-5pm on Sunday, will feature live acoustic music, South American and Asian fusion bites from La Chiva and The Satay Hut, plus kids’ activities. It’s $15 per adult (including take-home Spiegelau Chianti glass) and $5 for kids. Bookings essential.

Samuel’s Gorge Easter Weekend Release Extravaganza – March 31 – April 2

Samuel’s Gorge has made a few changes to its usual Easter Reds Release celebration, but it will still be sharing new releases of Grenache, Tempranillo, Mourvèdre and Shiraz. The McLaren Vale winery will be open from 11am-5pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with $15 getting you a take-home Samuel’s Gorge Spiegelau wine glass, tastings and the opportunity to take part in a series of “interactive winery activities”. Easter Sunday Family Fun Day at Glen Ewin Estate – April 1

Head to Houghton for an Easter Sunday event from 10am-4pm at Glen Ewin Estate featuring cocktails, food stalls, a wine bar and live music. There will also be kids’ events including an Easter egg hunt at 10.30am.

Motherlode Nuggeteria at West Oak Hotel – April 1

Fringe-goers who sampled Motherlode Nuggeteria’s golden chicken nuggets at the Royal Croquet Club (read CityMag’s glowing write-up here) will be pleased to know it’s popping up at the West Oak Hotel in Hindley Street for an Easter Sunday party. The event, kicking off at 2pm, will include local DJs and drinks specials including $5 “choc shots” and $10 chocolate espressos.

Sean’s Kitchen Crab Carnival – until April 22

In what it describes as “a celebration of the crustacean to get you out of your shell”, Station Road restaurant Sean’s Kitchen is serving up a menu of crab-themed dishes – from the Louisiana crab roll to a king crab mac & cheese – at its month-long Crab Carnival. There’s also a weekly Louisiana Crab Broil every Thursday, for $40pp. Details here.

BRKLYN’s gin and cocktail party – April 6-7

Rundle Street bar BRKLYN is celebrating its second birthday next weekend with a gin and cocktail party to be held over two days and featuring spirits from the Adelaide Hills Distillery. It will also launch a new menu, including Philly Cheese Steaks. Details here.

Primo & Co ‘Meet the Italians’ lunch – April 7-8

Primo Estate is hosting a long-table lunch at its McLaren Vale cellar door to celebrate the arrival of the new vintage of Primo & Co The Venetian Garganega from Italy and the first pour of its new Italian varietal Nero d’Avola. The four-course menu, prepared by La Dolce Vita Catering and including grilled spatchcock and a seafood risotto, will be paired with six wines. The cost is $95; bookings here.

Adelaide Heirloom Weekend – April 7-8

The Diggers Club’s Heirloom Weekend returns to the Adelaide Botanic Garden with a weekend of free cooking and preserving workshops, garden tours and other activities. There will also be several masterclasses – featuring Diggers’ co-founder Clive Blazey, Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis and Sophie Thomson, Granny Skills’ Rebecca Sullivan and chef Laura Cassai – including The Gurus of Preserving and Gardening Skills and Pick, Preserve and Pig-out (both classes are $99 for non-Diggers members). The Festival at Basket Range – April 7

Celebrate another harvest season with a batch of the Adelaide Hills’ most interesting and eclectic winemakers at The Festival at Basket Range. Many of the producers from the 2017 event at Basket Range Oval will be in tow, along with some newcomers. There will be live music, great food, interactive activities for the kids, and very good wine. For more information, keep an eye on the event page.

Tasting Australia – April 13-22

The program for this year’s Tasting Australia features more than 140 events across 10 days in April, including workshops, master-classes, degustation dinners, foraging adventures and underground feasts. The festival will open with a Surrealist Ball at the new d’Arenberg Cube in McLaren Vale, and includes  the inaugural TA National Spirit Awards (more about that here). East End Cellars Masterclasses – April 13-21

East End Cellars will present more than 20 wine, beer and spirit masterclasses in the Tasting Australia Town Square (in Victoria Square), including a gin-blending masterclass with KIS Spirits,  a “Night Caps” whisky class with Tasmanian distiller Bill Lark, and a tasting of 10 vintages from Henschke’s Mount Edelstone Vineyard. Electra Hotel’s Sushi Bubbles Go – April 17

Electra House’s Level One head chef Jamie Kang will teach you everything you need to know about sushi-making while you enjoy bubbles from Sidewood Estate and a champagne masterclass from Champagne XS. Sushi Bubbles Go runs from 6.30pm-9pm and costs $105.

Ayers House gueridon dinner – April 18-21

Historic Ayers House is bringing back its gueridons (trolleys) for a series of $195-a-head silver-service dinners in the Henry Ayers Room. Executive chef Paul Groves will present six dishes from the room’s last silver-service menus, from around 1991, which will be accompanied by matched wines and served with “bygone panache”. Valley to Verandah – April 14

Hardy’s Verandah will host a special tasting in the 165-year-old cellars under Mount Lofty House, followed by a 13-course degustation upstairs presented by chef Jin Choi and showcasing Adelaide Hills produce. $299 per person; details here.

Urban Wine Walk – May 19

This self-guided wine-tasting experience offers the chance to sample wines from makers such as La Prova, Yeti & the Kokonut, Hither & Yon, The Lane Vineyard and Chaffey Bros Wine Co at West End bars including Udaberri, Electra House, Hains & Co, MYLK Bar and La Buvette.
