Upcoming food and wine events in South Australia, including Christmas cooking demonstrations at the Central Market, a Not the Usual Suspects small-producer wine showcase, and a craft beer tasting at Glenelg.

Christmas at the Markets – December

Adelaide Central Market is hosting free Christmas cooking demonstrations on Fridays throughout December. This week (December 2), Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis from Sprout Cooking will show how to put together an easy and delicious Christmas salad, accompanied by a wine tasting with Hither and Yon. On December 9, Fiona Roberts will demonstrate how to make a Quince and Pomegranate Glazed Ham with Cherry Salsa and the classic prawn cocktail, while Tony O’Connell offers tips for preparing, storing and carving your Christmas ham, and on December 16, 2015 MasterChef finalist Jessie Spiby will share her favourite Christmas desserts. All cooking demonstrations run from 6pm to 7pm.

Not the Usual Suspects wine tasting – December 4

Taste more than 45 wines from South Australia’s smaller wine producers this weekend at Faraja on King William Road in Goodwood. Producers attending the event, which begins at 3pm, include Gestalt Wines, Mike Press, Dodgy Bros, Lino Ramble, and Matriarch and Rogue. Tickets are $15 per person and include wine tastings, a Govino glass and nibbles.

Craft beer tasting – December 3

Fassina Liquor Merchants is hosting a craft beer expo at its store in Jetty Road, Glenelg, this Saturday, with more than 30 beers from 12 Australian brewers available to try. SA brewers represented will include Mismatch Brewing, Smiling Samoyed, Prancing Pony and Vale Brewing. The event will run from midday until 5pm, with specials and giveaways.

Gathered Market – December 3 and 4

Gathered is hosting its next market at the historic Queens Theatre this Saturday and Sunday between 10am to 4pm. Enjoy a day out and support local food, live music and 80 South Australian stallholders. Food available at the event will include Red Cacao Chocolatier, Rust Coastal, Public, CocoaNuts, Sooki La La Street Food, Four Seeds, The Beigelry and Loca Pops. Entry is $2 per person.

Pepe Cucina Wine Wednesdays

Enjoy a night out at Pepe Cucina at Burnside Village to meet some of the state’s best winemakers and learn why their products are a good match for Salvatore Pepe’s Italian flavours. Guests will have the opportunity to try a range of wines on arrival, with a complimentary glass of their chosen wine served to them when they sit down for their meal. The next Wine Wednesdays will be tomorrow (November 30) and December 7. Tastings run from 6.30pm until 8pm and are open only to guests dining at the restaurant. Cellar Door Fest 2017

Tickets are now on sale for the 2017 Cellar Door Fest next February at the Adelaide Convention Centre. There will be 180 wineries, breweries, distilleries and food producers providing tastings over three full days, with the chance to take part in a number of masterclasses. The festival will run from 5pm to 9pm on Friday, February 24, until 6pm on Sunday, February 26.
