Lady Burra Fringe Pit Stop – March 11

On the last Friday night of Fringe, Lady Burra Brewhouse – Topham Mall’s microbrewery and Portuguese kitchen – is offering a “Fringe Pit Stop” for festival-goers to relax and refresh. Open from 10am til late, kick back on the bean bags and deckchairs with Lady Burra’s craft brews, sangria, paella, roast suckling pig, coffee and Portuguese tarts.

The Adelaide Fringe Reel – March 11

At 2KW this Friday night at 9pm will be the final showing The Adelaide Fringe Reel, the 30-minute screening of archival footage of the Fringe interspersed with images of the Fringe poster designs from the past 50 years.

Gluttony, Adelaide Fringe – Until March 14

If you haven’t yet visited Fringe precinct Gluttony on the south side of Rymill Park, this week is your last chance to sample the range of food options available at stalls including Jam Face by Poh, Toly Gourmet Vietnamese food, Soi 38 Thai food, Well Hung and Tender Burgers, Saint Espresso coffee and dessert crepes, and Amazon Power – an acai bowl stall that caters for just about every dietary requirement imaginable.

Jazz High Tea, Adelaide Fringe – March 12-14

Adding to the tradition of taking afternoon tea in a highbrow way on a three-tier stand, some of Adelaide’s jazz performers are serving live jazz as accompaniment to the sweet and savoury indulgences. Adelaide Fringe’s Jazz High Tea will offer audiences the opportunity to step into The Parlour at the Royal Croquet Club for a glass of sparkling wine, some freshly brewed tea and coffee, and a selection of high-tea treats all set to jazz music by the Odette Mercy Trio, Miss Wonderful, Louise Messenger and The Lucky 7. WOMADelaide – March 11 to 14

Get down to Botanic Park this weekend to savour the flavours and sounds at WOMADelaide.  Experience a diverse selection of international cuisines, including offerings from Cantina Kangaroo Island, Dinkydi Oysters, Four Seeds, Hanuman Restaurant Adelaide, Johnny Cougar’s Melon Camp, Let Them Eat, Moorish Bites, Parwana and Squid Inc. Don’t miss the Taste the World program hosted by Rosa Matto which combines exotic flavours, fascinating cultures and moving stories in a cooking presentation when festival stars swap their instruments for cooking utensils and introduce dishes from their homelands. And Jock Zonfrillo’s Street in The Park – The Taste The World Restaurant is also back this year to present 28 dishes from around the world, with each day of the festival offering a new menu at sit-down lunch and dinner sessions complemented by full table service. Hills Gourmet Gallop – March 13

Country picnic racing event the Hills Gourmet Gallop will showcase the region’s food and wine this Sunday at Oakbank Racecourse where local wines from Sidewood, Somerled, Golding, Hahndorf Hill, Pike & Joyce and Mt Lofty Ranges Wine will be complemented by gourmet food from Quince Catering and Locavore restaurant including lamb burgers, apple pies and vegetarian dishes made using ingredients sourced from the Adelaide Hills. Garden Party at Kaesler – March 14

Enjoy Kaesler Kitchen tacos, Kaesler wines and live acoustic music on the cellar door lawns of Barossa Valley’s Kaesler Wines at their annual garden party. Tacos are on from 12pm, no bookings required, just bring a deck chair or picnic rug and find a spot on the lawn. More information available here.

East End Wine Down – March 19

Following a sell-out response to last year’s event, East End Cellars is once again hosting the laneway food and wine festival East End Wine Down which transforms Vardon Avenue into a ‘cellar door’ showcase of some of South Australia’s boutique wine producers. Taste more than 100 local wines as well as delicious street-style food from local restaurants Golden Boy, Nola, Mother Vine and Africola. East End Wine Down runs from 12pm to 6pm and tickets are $35. Waywood ’14 Monastrell Launch and Paella Day – March 20

Celebrate the launch of Waywood Wines’ 2014 Monastrell at a paella party from 12pm to 5pm at the McLaren Vale winery and cellar door. Limited places available at $20 per person. Bookings and more information here.

A Sicilian Wine Dinner – March 22

Join Mercato Italian wine expert Christian Canala and Publishers Hotel sommelier Clinton Lucas when they host a three-course dinner paired with selected wines from the Mt Etna region of Italy. Enjoy executive chef Daniel Brooks’ menu featuring kingfish carpaccio, local calamari, herring with pancetta, zuppa di pesce and fennel and pork sausage. Kaesler Wines 2015 Vintage Barrel Tasting and Lunch – April 23

Join Kaesler winemaker Reid Bosward in the Barossa Valley for this pre-release masterclass and barrel tasting of 2015 vintage wines followed by a long-table lunch from the winery’s restaurant Kaesler Kitchen. Sample wines including Shiraz from the Old Bastard and Alte Reben vineyards and barrels which will eventually form The Bogan and Old Vine Shiraz, as well as other premium wines. Harvest the Landscape – Tasting Australia – May 1

Want to learn more about the source of Australian native bush foods without leaving the city? This guided tour through the Adelaide Botanic Garden “landscape” will take participants on a sensory journey into the distinctive flavours naturally found in Australia. Harvest the Landscape is part of the Tasting Australia Festival, which runs from May 1 to May 8. Harvest the Landscape tours run daily during the festival at 11am and cost $5 for adults and $2 for children.

Very Jammy – Tasting Australia – May 3

Fresh cherries, winter jams and quince jelly are part of the rich Adelaide Hills food heritage. At Marble Hill Cherries you can walk among the fruit trees, make your own jam and take home six full jars, new friends and a jelly cloth. Very Jammy is part of the Tasting Australia Festival which runs from May 1 to May 8. The full-day workshop runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm and includes a ploughmans lunch and local wine. Cost is $95 per person. Other highlights of the 2016 Tasting Australia program include foraging for wild mushrooms; the Lime Cave Degustation at Maxwell Wines; a distillation masterclass; sausage-making and cheese-making classes; Barrel Tasting in the Vale and the secret Origins Dinner; the “Lunch in the Company of…” series and the “A Few of My Favourite Things” series, where food and wine identities share their enthusiasm with participants; the Ultimate Cheese Experience at Say Cheese Wholesale; and the Single Sites wine tasting at the National Wine Centre.

Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend – May 13 to 16

The program for the annual Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend has been released, offering variety of events highlighting the region’s food, wine and hospitality. As well as cluster events such as the Gourmet Hub and Clare Valley Cuisine’s Gourmet Market Day, there are ticketed culinary events and day-trip options, weekend packages and more. And it is rumoured that some of the Clare Valley winemakers will come to Adelaide’s Leigh Street on April 8 for a pop-up city launch event to showcase some of the wines that will be on offer at the Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend. Losing the plot – until June 26, 2015

Losing the Plot: food gardening in South Australia explores the history of growing food in South Australia. It examines the stories behind the food on our plates from Aboriginal food production and school and community gardens to the home garden and market gardens in SA, and is accompanied by a program of workshops and talks focussing on food gardening and the use of garden produce in preserving and cooking.
