The Shadow Infrastructure and Transport Minister is a big fan of Australian music, and has become a DJ icon in Australian politics in recent years.

“I’m really into Gang of Youths at the moment and I voted for their song ‘Let Me Down Easy’ in the Triple J Hottest 100,” DJ Albo tells InDaily.

“It’s a great track, you know – it starts with the big bass and it kicks off from there.”

DJ Albo will showcase his renowned music taste at a Labor Party fundraiser at the Kings Head Hotel this Sunday.

“I’ll be playing some Gang of Youths, for sure, as well as Vera Blue, Tkay Maidza, Sticky Fingers, The Cure, New Order, Polish Club and [David] Bowie,” he says.

“I’ll also play some Cold Chisel to please the local audience.”

Albanese’s DJ career kicked off during the 2013 federal election.

“I was talking with people from Triple J after I came and did an episode of Hack,” he says.

“We were talking about music and they said, ‘You should do an episode of Rage’ and I did and people really liked it.

“It just went from there. I did a couple of gigs with Community Cup and one in Melbourne at the Corner Hotel. Five hundred people turned up – it was huge.”

And can I say both @hollythrosby at Dully, and @bestpolishclub with @ThePreatures @Enmore_Theatre were 2 of my favourite gigs of 2017 ? pic.twitter.com/iEU9hC53C7

Albanese says he can’t confirm or deny whether event organiser and federal Labor Senator Penny Wong will join him on the decks.

“She might have a go; we’ll just see how things go down.

“As long as the people who come have fun. It’s a Sunday afternoon so it would be a nice opportunity to just sit down and have a drink.”

DJ Albo will hit the decks at the Kings Head Hotel from 3-5pm as part of a Labor Party fundraiser. Tickets are $50 waged and $25 unwaged.
