Preservation Bay

Benevolence bathes
in the dying sun
when it slowly slides
into the ocean

and the late dusk blends
from pink to maroon
then purple-black

the salty sea spray
rinsing my nostrils
and also my mind

blustery, feather-grey clouds
come dancing in
their misty fingers
ruffling the white-grey manes
of the galloping swell

the ocean’s silky hand
reaching through
my surfboard
caressing my heart
connecting my soul
to a wider,
deeper,
presence

one more wave

one more ride

in the softly fading light

of Preservation Bay.
