Poem: Ode to the FruChoc

Today’s ode to a South Australian food “icon” comes from Shelda Rathmann, a teacher of English and creative writing at Eynesbury Senior College.

Ode to the FruChoc

FruChoc
you icon
your luscious flavours
linger, tantalise.
Fruit centres
of apricot and peach
melt in my mouth
like summer showers
and choc-coated dreams.

Eve would have
envied this feat
of modern invention,
discarded the apple
for a succulent,
moreish
bag of FruChocs
and devoured them
in an instant.
