With a sound described as “where ragga meets sitar, dub meets bhangra and punk rock meets hip-hop”, the multi-cultural group is known for highlighting oppression and injustice. It has previously shared the stage with musicians including Sinead O’Connor, Beastie Boys and Primal Scream.

Asian Dub Foundation will make its WOMADelaide debut – and only Australian appearance – on March 14, the closing night of the 2016 festival.

“It’s exciting to be able to present such a feisty international act in Asian Dub Foundation on the main stage on the final night of the festival next year,” said director Ian Scobie.

“They will undoubtedly close the night, and the festival, with the power and energy that their audiences have come to expect.”

Other acts announced today include the French-Cuban twin-sister musical duo Ibeyi (daughters of Buena Vista Social Club percussionist Miguel Anda Diaz), New York blues-jazz-folk ensemble Hazmat Modine, Israeli-born Ethiopian singer-actress Ester Rada, Japanese funksters Mountain Mocha Kilimanjaro, and Australian acts Mojo Juju and Husky.

The 2016 WOMADelaide will be at Botanic Park from March 11-14. Previously announced acts include Angelique Kidjo, who will perform on opening night with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
