Ukulele Death Festival – Kuitpo Hall

Ukulele groups from across Australia will perform at this festival in Kuitpo on Sunday. Described as a “one-day celebration of all things ukulele”, the festival features ukulele workshops and jam sessions, with performers including festival organisers Ukulele Death Squad, Lily and the King, Loren Kate, Joshy Willo, The Leroys, Jen Lush and Cal Williams Jr. Find out more here.

Record Store Day – various venues

Get your turntables ready, vinyl lovers – tomorrow is international Record Store Day, an annual celebration of the culture of independently owned record stores. SA stores including Crackle and Pop, Clarity Records and Paradise Loft Records have events planned, so it’s a good opportunity to gather with like-minded folk and also restock your collection. ASO Master Series – Adelaide Town Hall

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra presents the final performance of its Master Series concert Konstantin Plays Tchaikovsky at the Adelaide Town Hall tonight. The concert will begin with Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto, followed by Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra and Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture.

Spanish Film Festival – Palace Nova

Opening next Thursday with feel-good comedy The Tribe (pictured above) – about a “street-dancing” cleaning lady reunited with her long lost son – the Spanish Film Festival will take place at Palace Nova Eastend and Palace Nova Prospect. The festival – which also includes the “Almodóvar-esque” ghost comedy Abracadabra by director Pablo Berger and Oscar-winning animated family film Coco – continues until May 13, closing with Mexican director Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning dark fairytale Pan’s Labyrinth. 2018 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art

The Art Gallery of SA, Samstag Museum of Art, Jam Factory and Adelaide Botanic Gardens are hosting exhibitions in this year’s Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art. Thirty Australian artists interpret the theme Divided Worlds through photography, painting, sculpture, installation and moving image. After Dinner – Dunstan Playhouse

Thirty years after it was first produced, this lonely-hearts comedy is being re-staged by the State Theatre Company. Written by SA playwright Andrew Bovell, After Dinner transports audiences back to the pre-Tinder era of the late 1980s, following the story of three women and two men who meet at a pub bistro. The Wizard of Oz – Festival Theatre

Playing at the Festival Theatre, The Wizard of Oz leads audiences down the Yellow Brick Road with a musical adaptation of the much-loved family film. The London Palladium production stars Anthony Warlow, Wicked’s Lucy Durack and Jemma Rix, and Samantha Dodemaide as Dorothy. New songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber feature alongside classics from the Oscar-winning film score. Performances run until April 29. 

Groovin the Moo – Adelaide Showground

GTM 2018 heads to the Adelaide Showground next Friday, with the touring music festival boasting a line-up that includes Paul Kelly, Baker Boy (pictured above), Ball Park Music, Tkay Maidza, Sampa the Great, Flight Facilities, The Amity Affliction and Vera Blue. Gates open at 11am and tickets were still available when we last looked.

A Little Night Music – The Arts Theatre

The G&S Society of SA is presenting a season of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, the musical comedy set in 1990 Sweden and centred on the tangled web of affairs of a travelling actress. There will be 10 performances, from April 26 until May 5, at The Arts Theatre in Angas Street.

Colours of Impressionism – Art Gallery of SA

More than 65 Impressionist paintings from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris – including works by Monet, Renoir, Manet, Morisot, Pissarro and Cézanne – are on display in the Art Gallery’s Elder Wing in Colours of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay. The exhibition runs until July 29, and you can read more about it in this InDaily article.

The Barber of Seville – The Thomas Edmonds Opera Studio

Following a regional tour of the eastern states, Co-Opera is presenting its production of Rossini’s comic opera The Barber of Seville in Adelaide and regional SA. There will be performances at Willunga tomorrow and at The Thomas Edmonds Opera Studio at Adelaide Showgrounds this Sunday and next weekend (April 27-28), before it then heads to Penola, Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Ceduna and Roxby Downs. The show is being conducted by Co-Opera’s newly appointed musical director Josh van Konkelenberg, with more details here.

The 78-Storey Treehouse – Space Theatre

This latest stage adaptation in the popular kids’ books by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton is touted as the biggest and brightest yet, promising “a  rambunctious romp of a good time”. The 78-Storey Treehouse is at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Space Theatre from April 24 until May 5, but there are limited seats still available.

Grug and the Rainbow – Space Theatre

Windmill Theatre Company’s production of Grug and the Rainbow is showing at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Space Theatre until April 21 after a series of successful world tours. Described as a “magical, interactive world of endearing puppetry, music and storytelling”, the performance follows the popular children’s character as he embarks on a journey to reach the rainbow that always seems just beyond his grasp.
