Bowerbird Design Market – Adelaide Showground

Bowerbird Design Market returns to Adelaide Showground’s Wayville Pavilion this weekend with a line-up of more than 170 stallholders. Workshop highlights include a moss-ball ‘Kokedama’ assembly session, plant-based chocolate-making and a flower arranging class. Adelaide-based cobbler Beccy Bromilow – of BB Shoemaker – will reveal the art of leather making at a leather twisting and shaping workshop. Wolf Lullaby – Holden Street Theatres

The premiere production of Adelaide-based Oily Rag Theatre, Hilary Bell’s Wolf Lullaby is a dark psychological thriller that explores themes including parental responsibility and the “nature versus nature” debate. The play follows the story of nine-year-old Lizzie Gael, who is suspected of murdering a young boy found dead in a children’s playground. Performances run until May 12 at Holden Street Theatres. Sense and Sensibility – Dunstan Playhouse

The State Theatre Company Ensemble will take its final bow with a modern Kate Hamill adaptation of Jane Austen’s romantic classic Sense and Sensibility. The performance is described by outgoing State Theatre artistic director Geordie Brookman as a “joyful and absurd” take on Austen, featuring actors on roller skates and contemporary music from the likes of Queen. Performances will be held at the Festival Theatre’s Dunstan Playhouse until May 26. Read InDaily’s interview with Brookman here.

A Well-Set Table – Nexus Arts

This two-part music performance tomorrow night will feature clarinettists Aviva Endean and Shoshana Rosenberg leading with a “sonic exploration” of clarinets, chants, personal prayer and Jewish rituals. Oboist Ben Opie, bağlama (stringed instrument) player Iskender Ozan Toprak and percussionist Matthew Horsley will then perform a repertoire of Bach and Vivaldi reworks, original pieces by Toprak and Turkish folk music. First Fridays – Art Gallery of SA

The Art Gallery continues its monthly Friday evening event series tonight with a focus on the Colours of Impressionism exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to take guided tours of both the Impressionist paintings from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris – on show in the Elder Wing until July 29 – and the 2018 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art exhibition. DJ Bennymax and French-inspired quirk-folk group Coconut Kids (pictured above) will perform in the Sculpture courtyard, and gallery coordinating curator Tony Magnusson will give a floor talk on the themes surrounding the Colours of Impressionism exhibit at 6pm. Spanish Film Festival – Palace Nova

Carmen Machi stars as a cleaning lady whose true calling is street dance in the female-driven film The Tribe, screening at Palace Nova Eastend cinema tonight. The festival – which also includes Oscar-winning animated family film Coco and Chilean comedy No Filter – continues until May 13, closing with Mexican director Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning dark fairytale Pan’s Labyrinth. Brahms’ Requiem – Ukaria Cultural Centre / St Peter’s Cathedral

The Adelaide Chamber Singers will perform their debut concert for this year, Brahms’ Requiem, with The Choir of St James Church in Sydney and guest pianists Jamie Cock and Kristian Chong. This Saturday’s performance will be held at Ukaria Cultural Centre, Mount Barker, and a second concert will be performed at St Peter’s Cathedral in North Adelaide on Sunday.

A Little Night Music – The Arts Theatre

The G&S Society of SA is presenting a season of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, the musical comedy set in 1990 Sweden and centred on the tangled web of affairs of a travelling actress. A matinee and evening performance this Saturday will finish its run at The Arts Theatre in Angas Street.

Godspell – The Parks Theatre

Irregular Productions and Lydian Productions will present John-Michael Tebelak’s musical theatre show Godspell at The Parks Theatre in Angle Park from Thursday. The performance, which features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, follows eight disparate individuals who encounter Jesus. Find out more here.

2018 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art

The Art Gallery of SA, Samstag Museum of Art, Jam Factory and Adelaide Botanic Gardens are hosting exhibitions in this year’s Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art. Thirty Australian artists interpret the theme Divided Worlds through photography, painting, sculpture, installation and moving image. The Biennial continues until June 3, with details of associated events here.
