Deep South Blues Festival – Port Noarlunga

This three-day festival of blues and roots has moved from the city to the seaside this year, with gigs at a smorgasbord of venues all over Port Noarlunga. Acts include The Mojo Webb Band, Zkye Blue, The Streamliners, Lazy Eye, Cal Williams Jnr, Kelly Menhennett and band, Courtney Robb and Chris Finnen. Yusuf / Cat Stevens – Botanic Park

British singer-songwriter Yusuf, formerly known as Cat Stevens, performs in Adelaide’s Botanic Park on Saturday as part of his national Peace Train Tour. The tour marks the 50th anniversary of his first album, Matthew & Son, and is only his third visit to Australia in a musical career that began in the 1960s with hits including “The First Cut is the Deepest”. The Botanic Park gates open at 5pm, with Yusuf scheduled to take to the stage at 8pm. Tickets still available.

Bowerbird – Adelaide Showground

More than 170 designers will be showcasing their wares at the Bowerbird market in Adelaide Showground’s Wayville Pavilion over the next three days. You’ll find a wide range of stalls selling homewares, fashion, art, crafts and accessories, as well as workshops, demonstrations, food and music. Bowerbird is open from 4-9pm tonight, and from 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

From Broadway to La Scala – Her Majesty’s Theatre

Featuring singers Greta Bradman, Lisa McCune, David Hobson and Teddy Tahu Rhodes with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, this new production of From Broadway to La Scala promises a rich repertoire of musical and opera classics from the past two centuries – “from Puccini to Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bizet to Gershwin and Verdi to Cole Porter”. Conducted by Guy Noble, there will be two performances at Her Majesty’s Theatre tonight and Saturday night.

Feast Festival

It’s the final weekend of Adelaide’s queer arts and culture festival. It culminates on Sunday with the Feast Picnic in the Park from 11am-7pm at Pinky Flat, with live music, DJs stalls, bars, a kids’ zone, dog show and more. Over the weekend you can also catch stand-up comedy show The Dykeside at Raj House (tonight and Saturday night), Poetry Feast at Halifax Cafe (Saturday at 3pm), and comedic cabaret The Duetaholics at Nexus Arts (tonight and Saturday). Looping with Latitude – The Gov

Adelaide multi-instrumentalist Adam Page will join with the community choir Women with Latitude for this show at the Governor Hindmarsh, which is raising funds for the Luke Batty Foundation. Armed with a saxophone, loop pedal, keyboard and microphones, Page will improvise a set using sounds from the choir and the audience. The show begins at 1.30pm on Saturday.

Horrorshow – The Gov

Named Cherry Blossom, after a favourite track from their Bardot State album, this all-ages gig will see hip-hop duo Horrorshow re-create their songs in an acoustic setting. They’ll be supported by Taj Ralph, and doors open at 7.30pm on Saturday.

Adelaide Chamber Singers’ Messiah

Accompanied by an ensemble of Baroque musicians, the Adelaide Chamber Singers will present Handel’s Messiah at two concerts at St Peter’s Cathedral in North Adelaide on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Details here.

ADT’s construct – Space Theatre

Ten years after contemporary dance star Tanja Liedtke’s sudden death, the Adelaide-based Australian Dance Theatre is honouring her memory by remounting her final work, construct, under the direction of her friend and colleague Kristina Chan. Construct is a rigorous and humorous exploration of the concept of building. Read more in InDaily‘s interview with Chan. Performances run from November 29 to December 2 at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Space Theatre.

State Theatre’s Vale – Dunstan Playhouse

The State Theatre Company of SA’s final play of the year – described by playwright Nicki Bloom as “a dark and brutal comedy that turns into a Greek tragedy” – takes place on New Year’s Eve. Hotel mogul Joseph Vale is celebrating with his wife, their daughter and her boyfriend, but things take a turn with the arrival of an uninvited guest. Vale is at the Dunstan Playhouse until December 3. Details here.

ASO’s Beauty & Defiance – Town Hall

Pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk will join the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to perform Rachmaninov’s Second Concerto in this Master Series concert next Friday and Saturday night (December 1 and 2). Nicholas Carter will conduct the orchestra in a program that also includes Sibelius’s En Saga and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony. Details here.

Cine Latino Film Festival – Palace Nova

More than 20 films from Central and South American – including dramas, biopics, political thrillers, comedies and love stories – are showing during the Cine Latino Film Festival at Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas until November 29. There is a particular focus this year on the best new films from Argentina, including Inseparable, a remake of the French hit The Intouchables. See the full Adelaide program here.

Tarnanthi

The Art Gallery of SA’s Tarnanthi exhibition, which continues until January 28, features more than 40 new commissions, including the Kulata Tjuta (Many Spears) installation comprising more than 550 kulata hanging in a cloud formation above hand-carved piti (wooden bowls). Adelaide Festival Centre is also still showing the work of more than 90 Indigenous artists in its Tarnanthi satellite exhibition, Our Mob, in its Artspace Gallery and Dunstan Playhouse foyer until December 2.

Paolo Sebastian X – Art Gallery of SA

This exhibition celebrates the 10th anniversary of South Australian designer Paul Vasileff’s celebrated couture label Paolo Sebastian, with hand-crafted gowns from the past on show alongside the gallery’s collection of historic European art. Paolo Sebastian X is in galleries 12–16 until December 10, with free entry.

After Utopia – Samstag Museum

After Utopia: Revisiting the Ideal in Asian Contemporary Art features moving image, installation, painting and sculpture by artists from South-East Asian countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
