The Adelaide Festival Centre’s 2017 OzAsia Festival began on September 21, and will feature more than 300 artists across 50 events spanning theatre, dance, music, visual art and film. Highlights include the epic play Hotel, spanning 100 years of Singaporean history, Japanese vocaloid pop opera The End, and Asian contemporary art exhibition After Utopia (at Samstag Museum). The popular Moon Lantern Festival will take place on October 1 in Elder Park, while a new Lucky Dumpling Market on the Riverbank will serve up street food and live music throughout the festival, which runs until October 8. Cabaret de Paris – Her Majesty’s Theatre

Cabaret de Paris returns to Adelaide and brings with it plenty of Parisian pomp. Her Majesty’s Theatre will host the stage spectacular celebrating old-fashioned showgirl glamour, adagio dancers, aerial pole artistry, comedy circus performers, quick-change performers, illusionists and French Cancan Dancers. Yamato Drummers – Thebarton Theatre

Coming to Thebarton Theatre on Saturday, 23 September, the Yamato Drummers will bring their signature feats of strength, skill and rhythm to the stage, in a show that promises an air of infectious energy. Tickets are available for $55 plus booking fee and can be bought here.

Rabbits – Plant 1 Bowden

After selling out an Adelaide Fringe show hosted beside the basement pool of the Treasury Hotel, Steel and Brown return with Rabbits, a work based on writer and performer Emily Steel’s own experience of moving to Australia. The show will happen at Plant 1 Bowden on select dates from 21 September to 14 October. For tickets and further information, see the State Theatre Company’s website.

Italian Film Festival – Palace Nova Eastend

More than 30 films will screen throughout the Italian Film Festival from September 13 to October 1. A few highlights include the comedy Messy Christmas (by Welcome to the North director Luca Miniero), the award-winning drama Fortunata, about a young woman fighting for independence; and a melodramatic French-Italian biopic of famous European singer Dalida. The festival will close with the Oscar-winning 1997 film Life is Beautiful. See the full program here.

Re-thinking Australian Art – Art Gallery of SA

The AGSA is re-presenting its Australian collection in a series of new displays in galleries 6, 7 and 17. It says Re-thinking Australian Art “highlights the complex and radical changes that occurred in Australian art after the Second World War, including the revelation of Aboriginal art, the Feminist art movement and the rise of conceptual art and post modernism”.

Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year 
– SA Museum

A stunning selection of images capturing the beauty of the natural world is on display at the South Australian Museum until September 24 in the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year exhibition. Justin Gilligan from New South Wales won the 2017 competition with an underwater photo capturing the moment a Maori octopus selected its prey from a crowd of spider crabs.
