Moonlight Cinema – Botanic Park

The Moonlight Cinema in Botanic Park is time travelling on Sunday evening with a screening of Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 sci-fi classic Back to the Future, starring Michael J Fox. Other upcoming screenings include A Monster Calls (tonight), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Saturday), Gold (Tuesday), Live by Night (Wednesday) and Red Dog: True Blue (Thursday). Dusty – Adelaide Festival Centre

This weekend is your final chance to catch this touring musical which tells the story of the life and music of pop star Dusty Springfield, from her rise to fame in the swinging ’60s through to her later career and all the trials and tribulations in between. It is at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Festival Theatre until January 22.

Bowie Unzipped – The Gov

Bowie-Unzipped---Jeff-DuffA year after the death of David Bowie, performer Jeff Duff is saluting his legacy with a national tour of Bowie Unzipped. Duff puts his own interpretation on the Bowie songbook, accompanied by a band that includes guitarist Jak Housden from The Whitlams, keyboard player Glenn Rhodes and drummer-percussionist Jess Ciampa. They’re playing a two-hour show at the Governor Hindmarsh tonight (Friday).

Zero Feet Away – Ancient World

Act Now Theatre’s new work, a performance experiment about finding intimacy in a virtual world, opens next Wednesday at Ancient World in Hindley Street. The 16+ show was created by a team of queer artists, and delves into things like “hook-up apps and dating apps, nightclubs and bedrooms”. Read more here.

Murder City Carnivale of Cinema – Mercury Cinema

Described as an alternative, underground film festival, Murder City Carnivale of Cinema is taking place over three days at the Mercury Cinema and includes a line-up of out-there features and documentaries with titles such as Frankenstein Created Bikers, Gone Lesbo Gone, Dolly Deadly and Sheborg Massacre (about an alien fugitive who crash lands in a puppy farm). Butterfly Ladies Band – Dunstan Playhouse

Butterfly-Ladies-Band_credit_zhejiang_song_dance_theatreThis 15-piece ensemble, featuring members of the Zhejiang Traditional Orchestra, plays traditional Chinese music using eastern instruments including bamboo flute, the liuqin mandolin and the erhu, also known as the Chinese fiddle. There is one performance only at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Dunstan Playhouse on Saturday.

Holden Street Theatres fundraising event

This event at Holden Street Theatres on Sunday will begin with two hours’ of free children’s entertainment from 1-3pm, followed at 4pm by a wine tasting in the Foyer Bar and music by acts including Adelaide duo The Rubytones and blues-inspired folk-rock artist Zac Kelty. Money raised will support the Red Phoenix theatre company and Holden Street. Details here.

Curious Beasts: Animal prints from Dürer to Goya – SA Museum

This exhibition highlights the “beautiful and bizarre” imagery found in animal prints of the 15th to the early 19th centuries in the British Museum’s collection, including works by well-known artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Francisco de Goya and George Stubbs. Curious Beasts, which also showcases rare items from the South Australian Museum‘s own collection, continues until February 5.

Last Cab to Darwin – National Motor Museum

Last-Cab-to-DarwinPack a picnic rug and head to the National Motor Museum at Birdwood for an outdoor screening of Last Cab to Darwin on Australia Day eve. The feel-good road movie, starring Michael Caton and Jacki Weaver, tells the story of a terminally ill taxi driver’s 3000km solo journey from Broken Hill to Darwin. The museum will be putting on a barbie, or you can BYO picnic and drinks. Details here.

Sappers & Shrapnel – Art Gallery of SA

Sappers & Shrapnel is inspired by trench art – objects made by soldiers and civilians from the waste of warfare. The exhibition features work from the Australian War Memorial’s collection, as well as new work by contemporary artists including Fiona Hall, Ben Quilty, Sera Waters and the Tjanpi Desert Weavers. It is at the Art Gallery of South Australia until January 29.

Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition – State Library

Ninety stunning photos are on display in this exhibition showcasing winners and finalists from the 2016 Nikon-Walkley Awards for Excellence in Photojournalism. They range from harrowing images of war to those capturing triumphant moments in sport and the beauty of artistic achievement. The exhibition will be at the State Library of SA’s Institute Building until February 12. Read more in this InDaily article.
