Adelaide International Kite Festival

This free annual event will be held over Saturday, Sunday and Monday on the long weekend, with kites of all shapes and sizes being flown by participants from across Australia and overseas. There will be competitions, kids’ activities, carnival rides, and a festival marketplace with 20 stalls open daily from 11am-5pm on the foreshore. More info can be found here.

Cats the Musical

This revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long-running Broadway and West End musical is at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Festival Theatre until April 10. InDaily’s reviewer says every element is impressive, from the costumes and make-up, to the lighting, music, dancing and alley-cat underworld setting.

Shields: Power and Protection in Aboriginal Australia – SA Museum

This new exhibition at the South Australian Museum explores the role of shields in Aboriginal culture and history. As well as being used in individual and group conflict, carved and painted shields carry symbolism and affirm ancestral links. The museum is closed on Good Friday but open throughout the rest of the weekend. Shields continues until May 22.

2016 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art

With the theme Magic Object, the 2016 Adelaide Biennial draws inspiration from the “Wunderkammer” – rooms or cabinets displaying eclectic collections of exotic artworks and natural objects. Twenty-five artists have created works inspired by the theme. The biennial, which continues until May 15, encompasses exhibitions at the Art Gallery of SA, Samstag Museum of Art, Jam Factory, Santos Museum of Economic Botany and Carrick Hill. Blenheim Music Festival – Clare Valley

SA band The Beards are headlining the annual Blenheim Music and Camping Festival in the Clare Valley on Good Friday. Other acts in the line-up include X-Factor runner-up Louise Adams, R&B group The Streamliners, Kylie Auldist from The Bamboos, Australian twins The Pierce Brothers and Canada’s folk-pop trio The Jessica Stuart Few. Brick-a-laide – Adelaide Convention Centre

Star Wars will feature strongly in the new displays to be found at brick-a-laide when the Lego event returns to the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday and Saturday. There will also be a 4m scale battleship modelled on World War II battlecruisers and manned by a crew of 50 Lego sailors. All the exhibits are built by private collectors and fans, including what are known as ‘master builders’.

Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema

There are no scheduled screenings at the Openair Cinema at Glenelg over the Easter long weekend, but you can catch the whacky MA15+ Pride and Prejudice and Zombies tonight (March 24), with gates open at 6pm and the film showing after 8.30pm. Next week’s screenings include Gods of Egypt (March 29), The Revenant (March 30) and a Grease Sing-Along (March 31).

Easter White Party – The Gov

The White Party will bring Latino grooves to the Governor Hindmarsh on Saturday, with Latin band Soul Macumbia (pictured below) playing mix of Cuban and Colombian rhythms, Caribbean “breezes” and New York vibes. Adelaide Latino DJs Hugo Salcedo and CALI will also be playing at the 18+ event. The party starts at 8pm and, as the name suggests, the dress code is white.

Mystique – Her Majesty’s Theatre

Illusionist Michael Boyd will present this live magic show at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday (March 26), with the promise of escapes, levitations, transformations, special effects and disappearances. Boyd, a finalist on TV show Australia’s Got Talent, will be joined on stage by guests magician Lawson Reeves and Cat (Big Brother), with performances at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Surreality Bites – BMG Art

This retrospective exhibition celebrates the 20-year career of Adelaide artist Andrew Baines. Surreality Bites features 24 works, including the paintings of cows and suited men on beaches which are a trademark of Baines’ art, as well a series based on children’s character Rupert the Bear. The exhibition runs until April 9 at BMG Art on South Road, Marleston. Read InDaily’s interview with the artist here.

Gypsy & the Cat – Rocket Bar
