Robert Armitage’s picturesque three-shot panorama of a paddleboarder on the Onkaparinga River has won the top prize in the inaugural Through the Lens photo competition for seniors.

Armitage, who took the photo on a Canon 7D DSLR, says the location is one of his favourite spots for photography.

“Spring is an excellent time, as there are often moody skies with some wonderful cloud formations, although this image was shot in early November.”

Through the Lens was run by the Office for the Ageing and open to all South Australian Seniors Card members, who were invited to enter photos with the theme of “active ageing”.

Armitage’s image, which won the Landscape and Nature category, as well as the overall prize, will appear on the cover of the 2016 Seniors Card Discount Directory.

Winners of the four other categories were:

Family and Friends: Anita Millsteed, with Why is the water gold?

Regional South Australia: Brian Donaghy, Back to the Vehicles.

Lifestyle and Recreation: Suzanne Laslett, Evening light, Goolwa Beach.

Judge’s Choice: Amanda Luker, Hiking the Alpine Trails, Italy.

An exhibition of the winning photos is showing at the National Wine Centre until Friday (October 9).
