Adelaide best place in the world to live: Sunday Times

Mar 31, 2015

Adelaide leads a list of “best places to live overseas” in an eminent British paper.

The Murdoch-owned Sunday Times bestowed SA’s “small and perfectly formed” capital pride of place on its list of desirable international residential destinations, which also included Adelaide’s sister city Austin, Texas.

“Adelaide is one of Australia’s best-kept secrets, full of elegant tree-lined boulevards, homes with lacy verandas and beautiful parks and gardens,” the Sunday Times gushed.

“It has the prettiest cricket ground in the world — the locals are obsessed with the sport — and one of the starriest night skies.”

The piece called our fair city “the perfect package”, founded as “the planned capital of a freely settled British province”.

“It is a city with a colonial past, but an increasingly hip future,” it enthused.

“The central food market will satisfy every culinary craving, while the vine-clad Barossa Valley is on the doorstep. It also has the lowest house prices of any Australian main state capital.”

Adelaide has carved a recent niche as a boutique destination. It was Australia’s only city on TheNew York Times list of “52 places to go in 2015”.
